  • ALCEST To Join MASTODON & DEAFHEAVEN On Fall 2026 North American Tour

French atmospheric metal pioneers Alcest will return to North America this fall as special guests on a massive tour featuring Mastodon and Deafheaven.

The tour begins September 16 in Orlando, FL and runs through October 22 in Atlanta, GA, making stops in cities across the United States and Canada.

The tour follows Alcest‘s triumphant return to North America in 2025 and continues the band’s support of their latest studio album, Les Chants de L’Aurore, released via Nuclear Blast Records.

Tickets go on sale to the general public on Friday, June 5th at 10:00 AM local time. For tickets and additional information, visit here.

Released to widespread critical acclaim, Les Chants de L’Aurore further expands Alcest‘s singular artistic vision, seamlessly blending shimmering shoegaze textures, post-rock atmospherics, and black metal intensity into one of the band’s most evocative and immersive works to date. A journey through both radiant beauty and profound melancholy, the album drifts between cathartic, dreamlike passages and moments of soaring emotional weight, as showcased on standout tracks such as “L’Envol,” “Améthyste,” and “Flamme Jumelle.” The record marks another high point in Alcest‘s celebrated catalog, reaffirming the band’s status as one of the most innovative and influential forces in modern heavy music.

Purchase/stream Les Chants de L’Aurore here.

For principal songwriter and frontman Neige, Alcest has always been a gateway to the otherworldly, a means of exploring his spirituality. An elemental two-piece, completed by long-serving drummer and creative confidante Winterhalter, Alcest seem to dip their toes in a multitude of musical genres without ever quite fitting in. “In the metal scene, Alcest is a weird band; in the indie/post-rock scene, Alcest is a weird band- we never quite fit in,” Neige reflects. “This is how I feel in life, always an outsider; It’s not a problem, it’s just the way it is.”

Album Review: Blood Incantation – All Gates Open

    Reviewed by Patrick O’Reilly

Blood Incantation have been one of modern-day death metal’s true revelations, a band of supreme musicianship, creative talent and real visionaries. Their mastery of cosmic death metal has come naturally and organically since the release of their self-titled demo in 2013 up to the grandiose and progressive ‘Absolute Elsewhere’ album receiving critical acclaim upon its release in 2024.

The recording of this revolutionary album was captured on camera and became the film ‘All Gates Open’ a 73-minute odyssey into the bands’ creative processes and conjuration of their opus. Released with the three CD/Blu-ray versions of the album, it was a rare treat for fans of the band and a glimpse into the space ways where such an album is conceived.

This album that is being reviewed is the soundtrack to that movie, another treat for fans of the band as it is even more material spewing forth from the great nebula that is Blood Incantation, although it is not death metal in any shape or form, it’s actually an ambient record of such exquisite beauty it will take you beyond the stars.

This is not the first time the band have released such material, 2022’s ‘Timewave Zero’ was also an ambient release, showing these space cadets can turn their hand to multiple genres.

‘All Gates Open’ soundtrack consists of four songs, ‘Balance’, ‘Flight’, ‘Dawn’ and ‘Rain’, ‘Dawn’ being a short five min track whilst the others clock in at between 13 and 20 minutes

Album Review: Blood Incantation - All Gates Open

‘Balance’ is light and airy, evoking images of a spacewalk and watching the sun (or suns depending on which galaxy you are in) rise around the edge of nearby planets. It is ethereal and bright, giving off harmonious vibes.

‘Flight’ is more upbeat, especially towards the end where a drum machine is introduced and brings to mind sailing through space in some kind of futuristic ship. Hurtling through the stars on a mission, possibly with the fate of mankind hanging in the balance!

‘Dawn’ is dominated by an organ, though one of a cosmic rather than religious nature. Its drone echoing around the universe, calling all beings to attention.

And closer ‘Rain’ brings all elements of the album together, mixing synth and acoustic guitar to yield an explosion of emotion and feeling, rather like a drought being broken on a distant arid planet.

Synths dominate proceedings and have a beautiful tone from the aforementioned organ like thrumming to more delicate and crystalline sounds.

All of Blood Incantation’s work is a vessel for transportation, and this is no exception, so settle back into the cockpit, set controls for the heart of the sun and enjoy.

Defending ‘The Realm’ and Laughing Off “Industry Plant” Viral Drama

Castle Rat’s meticulous attention to world-building has turned their live shows into highly interactive, mandatory viewing events. Each performance is packed with rich, fantastical lore and features elaborately choreographed battle scenes where the band actively beckons fans to join their crusade to expand and defend “The Realm” from destruction.

This highly polished aesthetic—combined with a massive career boost opening major arenas for death metal icons Amon Amarth and Dethklok—has caused online skeptics on platforms like Reddit to launch cynical “industry plant” accusations against the band.

In a recent talk with Full Metal Jackie, lead singer and definitive “Rat Queen” Riley Pinkerton completely laughed off the internet gossip, transforming the criticism into a badge of DIY honor: “I don’t go on Reddit or anything, but my bandmates do. And so I hear reports back of people being like, ‘They’re industry plants,’ which is hilarious and a compliment. I’m like, damn, we’re doing all this super DIY and you think that we’re industry plants. That’s the funniest comeback, because other people will chime in and they’ll be like, ‘Who would plant a medieval rodent-themed doom metal band in the industry and be like, “You know what’s really gonna make us money? This rodent-themed medieval doom metal band.”‘”
