  • BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME To Play Inside A Prehistoric Cave At The Caverns On June 19

Between The Buried And Me will perform at The Caverns on Friday, June 19. The venue is a fully operational concert space built within a natural limestone cave system in Grundy County, Tenn., named to Billboard‘s 2026 Top Music Venues list for what the publication called its “Wow Factor.”

The Caverns has steadily built a reputation as a destination for heavy and experimental music. Previous performers inside the cave include drone pioneers Sunn O))) (two appearances), Blood Incantation, GWAR, guitarist Buckethead (three shows, with a fourth scheduled for Aug. 7), and cult sludge act Acid Bath.

General manager Joe Lurgio said, “The Caverns is a venue for all genres of music, and that certainly includes metal. Could there be a more perfect place for a metal show than surrounded by rock inside a prehistoric cave?”

Between The Buried And Me‘s June 19 Caverns show falls near the end of the band’s current 31-date U.S. headlining tour in support of their 2025 album The Blue Nowhere (InsideOut Music). The run opened May 15 in Richmond, Va., and closes June 20 in Winston-Salem, N.C., with support on select dates from Imperial Triumphant, Fallujah, Thank You Scientist, and The World Is A Beautiful Place & I Am No Longer Afraid To Die. Tickets and additional information are available at The Caverns’ website.

Formed in 2000 in Raleigh, N.C., Between The Buried And Me has released 11 studio albums, from their 2002 self-titled debut through The Blue Nowhere, earning a Grammy nomination in 2019 and consistent year-end recognition from outlets including Consequence, Revolver, and Loudwire. The band’s current lineup is vocalist and keyboardist Tommy Rogers, guitarist Paul Waggoner, bassist and keyboardist Dan Briggs, and drummer Blake Richardson.

  • ALBUM REVIEW: Cutthroat – Invoking Death

Irish death-thrash metal mob Cutthroat unleash their debut MLP of wild savagery. Set for release via Dying Victims Productions on June 19th. I became aware of them via trading with Brione’s Roar of War fanzine and look forward to seeing these maniacs destroy London soon!

Opening with feedback drawing into a long song for the style, Cutthroat erupt with death metal of the merciless variety. Intricate drums fly across the kit as mean vocals spit venom through the tight guitar riffing. The organic production is rough but clear and powerful with a dryness to it that few bands have the guts to do these days. Instantly I adore how all over the place this is from the rumbling bass to razor-sharp dive bombs and wild vocals. Especially present is the drum work which is nice and high in the mix to hear how frantic the battery is. This is a glorious presentation of total thrashing, high speed, death metal mania. Malevolent atmospherics blend with raging ferocity to ensure that all headbangers are tied to the rusted barbed wire flailing from the speakers. As my first impression of the band’s music, I am impressed. It always brings me joy hearing younger fellas inspired by the same things I love in metal music and doing something so wild and fierce.

Ever wondered what it means to “burst command ’til war”? Well, these lads figured it out. It’s playing rabid metal, whether it’s heavy, speed, thrash, black, death or best yet; that murky enigma that fills the cracks between them all. Cutthroat play in that poisoned vein that exploded in the 80s but continues to hold a mystique and power like no other to this day. Frenzied guitar work barrelling into crushing bass lines with utterly mental drumming and psychotic vocals… that’s what it’s all about! This is a spiteful release that punishes trend-followers and modern insults to true metal – and they do it so damned well. If you ain’t morbid, get out of here now, before it’s too late..!

These morbid rites are so packed with energy, passion and aggression that you will undoubtedly need several listens to fully appreciate all of the moments of mania they manage to squeeze into 24 minutes. Every second is ruthless and yet the dynamics range from these pulsating pustules of morbidity to the full explosion of barbarity and bestial lust that one would expect from such a record. I don’t want to ramble on too long, this release is short and sweet; so I want the review to be the same. Listen to this if you like proper death metal. If you don’t; grow up.

A ripping cut of lethal death. This is the kind of wild extremity that made me fall in love with Autopsy, Morbid Angel, Possessed, Dark Angel and so on as a youngster. Proving the timeless value of this music, a new band like Cutthroat playing their own spin on these titans still has so much artistic merit and room for exploration. The feel is perfect here. From the art, production and most of all the music; “Invoking Death” lives up to its name and calls the savages of old with these diabolical incantations. Live for violence or die trying!

    Rating: 8.5 out of 10.
  • SOOTHSAYER Unleash New Single “Kick Throat” From Upcoming Album Chapter IV on CDN Records – @thebeast

    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SOOTHSAYER Unleash New Single “Kick Throat” From Upcoming Album Chapter IV on CDN Records

Quebec City’s old-school thrash war machine SOOTHSAYER are back and swinging harder than ever with their new single and video “Kick Throat,” now out via CDN Records. This is not a comeback. It’s a continuation of a 40-year brawl that never really stopped.
Formed in 1985, SOOTHSAYER carved their name into the foundations of Canadian thrash during the genre’s most violent and defining era. Built on raw aggression, speed, and zero compromise, the band first detonated onto the underground with their infamous 1986 demo To Be a Real Terrorist , a tape that quickly spread through tape-trading circles like a controlled explosion.
From there, tracks like “Death Radiation,” “Troops of Hate,” and “Kill Oppression” cemented their reputation as one of the most unfiltered voices in the crossover thrash underground. Blending Bay Area velocity with punk ferocity, SOOTHSAYER never polished the edges. They sharpened them.
Their classic era release Have a Good Time and subsequent underground catalog helped define a distinctly Canadian strain of thrash in the late 80s, one built on grit instead of gloss and attitude instead of trend chasing. After stepping back for a time, the original lineup, including members present since that first demo era, reunited in 2007 and picked right back up where the chaos left off.
Now in 2026, SOOTHSAYER return with “Kick Throat,” the first strike from their upcoming full length Chapter IV , also set for release on CDN Records. The track delivers exactly what longtime followers expect, razor wire riffs, breakneck pacing, and that venom soaked vocal delivery that sounds like it was dragged straight out of the pit and set on fire.
“Kick Throat” is available now alongside its official video, premiering April 24, 2026, setting the tone for what is shaping up to be another unrelenting chapter in the band’s long running legacy of destruction.
Chapter IV promises more of the same uncompromising philosophy SOOTHSAYER have always stood on. No trends. No reinvention for approval. Just pure thrash delivered the way it was meant to be heard, loud, fast, and dangerous.
They don’t follow the times. They drag the past forward and make it bite again.
    Thrash or be thrashed.

  • Dying Scene Album Review – The Flatliners “Cold World”

Longevity, effort, dedication, relevance, consistency, performance, influence, and perseverance. Words that come to mind describing the tenacity of any musician, artist, or band. The people that make up the punk rock world encompass this and much more. A shining example is Ontario, Canada’s The Flatliners.

The quartet, based out of Richmond Hill, Ontario, has been rocking live shows and cranking out some of the best music everyone loves since 2002. Between the time and hard work this band has put in, it’s safe to say they’ve earned the recognition and loyalty among punk rock fans across the world.

The Flatliners have released seven studio albums and a plethora of EPs during their twenty-four years as a band. Starting with their debut Destroy to Create in 2005, followed by The Great Awake in 2007, Cavalcade in 2010, Dead Language in 2013, Inviting Light in 2017, New Ruin in 2022, and now Cold World, their seventh album releases today.

The excitement for the release of Cold World has been building over the last few months. The hype is very real, fans have been anticipating new music from The Flatliners and they did not disappoint. The band released “Good, You?” as a single on February 17. “Good, You?” seems to ask how we are doing while acknowledging the struggles and feelings we have as people. “So tragic, so blind to the ever-open wound, good, you?” The song has the slow-paced guitar buildup we all have grown to love about this band. Melodic, emotional and with purpose, this is why we love The Flatliners. An excellent peek at what is to come for the album.

“Inner Peace” is somewhat of an ironic name for this song if the listener is to go by the pace of the music itself. An aggressive, in-your-face, loud, and hard-hitting song, the chorus slows down to form a melody that is familiar. Features the signature raw vocals from frontman Chris Cresswell (Yes, THE Chris Cresswell, the same dude who moonlights as a member of Hot Water Music) and is very much complemented by the drumming of Paul Ramirez. “So deflated, turn it on, breathe your air into me or I’m gone,” a search for something uplifting, perhaps enlightenment.

Big guitars, big drums, and some ohhs and whoas showcase the intro song for Cold World, “Stolen Valour.” Once Creswell chimes in, we know where this is going. “Together in disintegration we fall first. Completely it will come apart, it just gets worse,” these lyrics will be stuck repeating in your head while contemplating your sense of belonging. This is The Flatliners we want to hear, a song that will get the crowd moving when played live.

Perhaps the most poignant song on Cold World is “And They’re Off.” This is the song that we will be singing together in dive bars while drinking cheap beer and lamenting the past. “Catastrophe, sitting on the shoulders of what used, what used to be. The horse we’re betting on is already dead, so what’s the use?” This is a statement to keep going. “Set foot in the past, keep planning now for the future.” Let this song soak in and enjoy.

“Pulpit” is very ambitious, heavy, and sounds like it should be played in a stadium. “There’s beauty in the way we have decayed,” finding the good when things are going bad. Another example of a chorus that’s going to be stuck in your head. “Burn” might be the best pound for pound song on the entire album. It’s the classic sound of The Flatliners and is a reminder of how far this band has come. Play this one at full blast and get those fists pumping. “Burn, don’t let it burn away, Burn, what’s lost cannot be saved.”

Overall, Cold World, is an absolutely fantastic offering from The Flatliners. Much like their previous albums, it has charm, melody, ingenuity and compassion. It breathes. It speaks. It feels. There’s so much there and it easily is going to be the best album of the year to most of us. It is such a big album, from the guitars to the impact of the songs. A lot of reflection but also a lot of enthusiasm. The Flatliners have been through it and they’re still going through it.

The Flatliners are currently on The Cold World World Tour. Visit their website for tour dates here. The album Cold World is released through Equal Vision Records, and can be ordered here.
