Suffering Quota Aim Their Bleak, Oppressive Pursuit Right at Your “Head” (Track Premiere)
Groningen grind squad Suffering Quota don’t waste time with body blows, they go straight for the killshot on “Head,” a relentlessly punishing and punishingly relentless slice of their forthcoming album, Sisyphean Life, that we’re premiering today. The Greek mythology-inspired song cycle is animated by the “idea of eternal return” and the “endless push uphill with the recurring descent into depression.” Proof of concept is manifested within “Head”’s barrage of hardcore-adjacent, hurricane-force shrieks standing tentatively astride a crumbling serac of speedball riffs and a nimble array of blasts courtesy of drummer Martin Kah. Whiplash tempo changes ultimately send this roiling edifice crashing down into a miserable avalanche of suffocating grind shrapnel. Razor-sharp production gives “Head” a level of sonic depth and power that further illuminates the song’s fierce, desperate energy. Listen to it before Sisyphean Life releases later this year.

Symphonic Titans Awaken: Dimmu Borgir Unveils "Grand Serpent Rising" and the Return of Orchestral Darkness
The masters of symphonic black metal are finally breaking their silence. Dimmu Borgir has officially announced their long-awaited new full-length album, Grand Serpent Rising, slated for release later this year via Nuclear Blast. Accompanying the announcement is the title track’s music video, a cinematic descent into the band’s signature blend of orchestral grandeur and extreme metal ferocity. For fans who have been waiting since 2018’s Eonian, this new chapter feels like a return to the more aggressive, darker roots of the Death Cult Armageddon era, but with the refined production of 2026. Silenoz and Shagrath have crafted a soundscape that feels both ancient and futuristic, utilizing a full live orchestra to heighten the atmospheric tension.
The Serpent Reigns.
“This is the most challenging and rewarding piece of art we’ve ever created,” Shagrath stated regarding the new single. The track “Grand Serpent Rising” showcases a relentless double-bass assault and choral arrangements that sound like a literal summoning. It’s clear that Dimmu Borgir isn’t interested in following trends; they are here to redefine the genre they helped build.
With a massive North American tour alongside Suffocation already confirmed for August, the hype for Grand Serpent Rising is just beginning to boil over. The serpent has indeed risen, and the metal world is taking notice.
Stay tuned for more updates on pre-orders and tour dates as they emerge.
