Good news, comrades…Counterpunch are back!

The Chicago punks have announced a brand new track…their first since their 2022 full-length, Rewire. The new track is called “Dig” and it’s a raw, fast-paced look at the world around us. Here’s what the band had to say about the track:

“‘Dig’ is a blistering, fast-paced song that hits like a raw emotional outburst. Written as an emotional release in response to the troubling things we continue to ignore and/or the activities our country continues to participate in, both at home and around the globe.”

Cleopatra Records will release Purple Storm: A Tribute To Deep Purple on Nov. 13, following closely behind its well-received Ride The Rainbow tribute to Rainbow, the other band of Ritchie Blackmore. As with that project, a lineup of hard rock and metal names has signed on to put its own spin on some of the genre’s most loved songs.

A few tracks have already surfaced, but the one many fans have been waiting for comes from Angel. The band, which also appeared on Ride The Rainbow, has tackled “Woman From Tokyo,” one of the cornerstones of the Deep Purple catalog.

The track has already made noise. A limited-edition 12-inch single came out earlier this summer, and the entire pressing was gone in roughly 12 hours. Now it has a video from Misterdeeds11/Jay Rice, which mixes footage of Angel recording the song in the studio with clips from the band’s own trips to Japan, where fans hold Angel in as high regard as the die-hard crowd back home in the U.S.

“Deep Purple was one of my favorite bands back in the day,” said Angel veteran Punky Meadows. “Guitarist Ritchie Blackmore…. what can I say? That goes without saying! When Cleopatra asked Angel to contribute to the Deep Purple tribute album, we chose to do a classic..Give it a kick in the ass… and Angelize it! “My Woman From Tokyo”!! Dig It!!”

His bandmate Frank Dimino added, “Recording the Deep Purple song brought back memories of when we rehearsed next door to each other in the Gower Studios lot. Great band, great song, great times!!!!”

The album covers 11 Deep Purple songs in all. Along with “Woman From Tokyo,” the tracklist includes “Highway Star,” “Child In Time,” “Smoke On The Water” and “Black Night.” The selections reach back to the band’s early days with “Hush,” its first U.S. hit single, and forward to the title track of the 1984 album Perfect Strangers.

The guest roster spans several generations of rock players. It includes Chris Adler, Chris Poland, and David Ellefson (Megadeth), Alan Davey (Hawkwind, Hawkestrel), Graham Bonnet, Ronnie Romero and Bob Daisley (Rainbow), Jonathan Cain (Journey), George Lynch (Lynch Mob), Pat Travers, Arthur Brown, Carmine Appice (Vanilla Fudge, Cactus, Rod Stewart), Thor, Rick Wakeman (Yes, David Bowie), Mick Box (Uriah Heep) and more.

Tarja has put out “Tango,” a team-up with fellow Finns Apocalyptica, as the newest single from her album Frisson Noir.

The song starts with a tango groove played on Apocalyptica‘s cellos and keeps tightening until guitars and drums come in behind a big, cinematic chorus. Tarja moves from a restrained delivery to full power as the lyrics tell of a life that slips by almost unseen.

She explained how the collaboration came about, saying, “I wanted this song to be a special one, and as I have always loved the sound of the cello, Apocalyptica was the perfect artist to work with,” Tarja said. “Eicca, Perttu and Paavo made my dream come true.”

Apocalyptica added, “We have known Tarja since the mid-’90s and working with her has always been at the top of our list of featuring artists or collaborators. It was so great to finally find the time and the song to work together. She originally redefined what it means to combine classical singing with metal and we are so happy for this collaboration.”

The video places Tarja alongside all three members of Apocalyptica, Eicca Toppinen, Perttu Kivilaakso and Paavo Lötjönen. It is a dark, cinematic performance clip that suits the song’s drama.

Collectors get a physical option too. “Tango” comes out Nov. 27 as a 10″ vinyl single limited to 500 copies worldwide. Side A carries the album version. Side B holds two previously unreleased recordings, “Tää Tango (Piano Demo)” and “Tää Tango (Band Demo).” Neither demo will be available digitally, and they show how the track developed, starting with the piano sketch that gave “Tango” its name.

Frisson Noir is the heaviest album of Tarja‘s career. It runs 10 tracks and features Dani Filth of Cradle Of Filth, Apocalyptica, former Nightwish bassist/vocalist Marko Hietala and Chad Smith of Red Hot Chili Peppers. Grammy-winning producer Neal Avron, known for his work with Linkin Park, Skillet and Disturbed, handled the mix.

Since going solo, Tarja has charted internationally and gathered a loyal following that has stuck with her through each new project. Her catalog spans more than 20 years and has reached the Top 10 on several European album charts. She is also a steady live presence, touring around the world and guesting at major metal festivals, where she connects with crowds in a way that leaves a mark.
