Philadelphia gave Boyz II Men both their home and their foundation, with the group first coming together in 1985 at the Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts. Nathan Morris and Marc Nelson started the act under the name Unique Attraction, and the lineup soon expanded with Wanyá Morris, Shawn Stockman, and Michael McCary. Their path changed in 1989 after they sang an a cappella version of “Can You Stand the Rain” backstage at a Philadelphia Civic Center concert, impressing Michael Bivins of New Edition.
