Secrecy: Good name for a punk band! It calls to mind the Germs’ “What We Do Is Secret,” as well as the general sense of a hidden underground world that regards outsiders with suspicion. London’s appropriately mysterious Secrecy have a big, propulsive sound — coarse hardcore vocals, reverb-drenched guitar jangle, booming drums. They bring a sense of frenetic darkness that recalls the moment that goth first emerged out of punk. There’s at least a bit of Stone Roses glimmer in there, too.

Amyl and the Sniffers formed in Melbourne, Australia, in 2016 around vocalist Amy Taylor, guitarist Declan Mehrtens, drummer Bryce Wilson, and original bassist Calum Newton. The band wrote, recorded, and uploaded its first EP, Giddy Up, in a remarkably short burst, establishing a raw mix of punk, pub rock, garage rock, and Australian rock and roll. Gus Romer later joined on bass, completing the lineup that carried the group from Melbourne’s club scene into international touring. Way Dynamic is a funny moniker for a band so chill. Dylan Young has been recording under that name since his university days at RMIT in Melbourne about a decade ago, and the project has ramped up in the 2020s with a trio of albums crafted in tandem with Good Morning’s Stefan Blair. The original version of I Prevail‘s Violent Nature was about as savage as it gets. While the old adage “If it ain’t broke…” could most certainly apply here, fans will be thrilled that the Grammy-nominated, platinum-selling band decided to flip the switch and enlist DJ and musical alchemist Sullivan King to remix the song. He adds an additional layer of scratchy, synth-driven mayhem and post-apocalyptic vitriol. The end result sounds like melting metal. Violent Nature was already, well, violent AF. The Sullivan King-assisted version has it looking at jail time.
“Violent Nature was already one of the most aggressive songs we’d ever created,” the band says. “Sullivan King took it into a new universe with a bold arrangement and a festival-sized EDM assault. It has all the weight of the original, plus the drop-heavy adrenaline you didn’t know you needed. This track is exactly where modern metal and EDM collide.”

Today, the Tampere-based four-piece officially releases Brainbanger , their fourth full-length album and their most unapologetically metal record to date.

Founded in Tampere in 2011, Egokills have released three previous albums and performed across 13 countries, developing a reputation for combining multi-layered alternative metal with hard-hitting heavy rock. Now, after years of writing, rehearsing, performing and building a new foundation, the band sees 2026 as a turning point.
Brainbanger is the result.
Driven by the chemistry of four musicians playing together in the same room, the album embraces the raw energy and physicality of traditional rock recording while drawing heavily from the metal and rock sounds of the 1990s. Rough around the edges by design, Brainbanger captures Egokills at their most direct, energetic and confident.

The album was produced, recorded and mixed by Juha Nevala , whose work with artists including Somehow Jo and Huora reflects a focus on capturing the authentic sound and character of a band. Recording took place at Lammaskallion Audio, Studio Pinni and Jii-Studio , with mastering handled by Jaakko Viitälahde at Virtalähde Mastering .
For Egokills, the recording process was about getting away from the distractions of everyday life and focusing on the music.
“It was definitely the right choice to retreat to this countryside studio away from normal life. We were able to focus better than ever before and we had fun,” explains guitarist Niko Viita-aho .
Another major change in the band’s evolution came in 2024, when Egokills officially became a four-piece after years of experimenting with different lineups. The new lineup also brought a significant change to the band’s frontman. Vocalist Janne Selo picked up the guitar, helping open a new creative chapter for Egokills.
“When I started playing, I instantly felt about twenty years younger. Then the songs started flowing,” Selo says.
That renewed creative energy can be heard throughout Brainbanger , an album rooted in honesty, confidence and the search for light in a world that can often feel overwhelmingly dark. The band’s lyrics explore themes of keeping an open mind, building confidence through honesty and finding that pale light, whether it is real or not.
Musically, Egokills draw from the intensity of classic heavy metal and hard rock while retaining the alternative edge that has shaped the band’s identity. The result is a record built for loud speakers, turned-up amplifiers and live rooms.
And after years of preparation, Egokills are ready to bring Brainbanger home.

What Kid Rock Actually Said About Church Music
Here’s the quote, verbatim: ‘Growing up Catholic and going to Catholic church, I was always like, I have to confess this is boring. This music is terrible.’
So he went looking. He started visiting Baptist and non-denominational churches, found music he could stand, and landed on the idea of writing rock, country and hip-hop songs about Jesus and his own faith instead of waiting for somebody else to do it. That’s the album.
If you’ve been paying attention, it isn’t a bolt from the blue. In February he put a new faith-forward verse on his cover of ‘Til You Can’t and debuted at number one on Billboard’s Hot Christian Songs chart, his first appearance on that chart ever. The verse was premiered live at the All-American Halftime Show, which is where a lot of people first noticed the Robert Ritchie version of Kid Rock was starting to crowd out the other one. Halfway To Jesus is that single turned into a whole record.

The Eminem Track, And Why Kid Rock Says It’s The Point
Eminem appears on a song called 7 Sins. Two Detroit guys who have known each other since the late nineties, on a Christian album, in 2026. If that sounds unlikely, Kid Rock agrees, and he says the unlikeliness is the message.
‘I’m proud of the guests who joined me, especially my old friend Eminem,’ he said. ‘His verse speaks to something we’ve talked about and that really needs to be heard: we differ politically and on other things, but we’ve stayed friends through it all.’
Then the line that will get quoted everywhere: ‘We hope that sets an example for people who’ve lost friends or stopped talking to family because they think differently.’
For the record, Kid Rock is one of the most publicly political musicians in America and Eminem has spent years on the other side of that line. Neither man is pretending otherwise. The track exists anyway. Whatever you make of either of them, two of Detroit’s biggest exports agreeing to share a song about sin is a more interesting story than most album announcements.
The First Single: James 1:17 (Jesus Is King)
The title is a Bible reference. James 1:17 is the verse about every good and perfect gift coming from above. The video was filmed at Kid Rock’s Big Honky Tonk in Nashville, and it carries two dedications: one to his longtime keyboard player Jimmie Bones, who was diagnosed with ALS in 2024, and one to Kalvin Lynch, a Make-A-Wish recipient and fan living with a brain tumour. Whatever else you think about the project, that part is sincere.
The title track, Halfway 2 Jesus, brings in Gary LeVox and Jimmie Allen, which tells you the Nashville side of the record is going to be as prominent as the Detroit side. Seventeen songs, a verse numbered 1:17, and a release on the 17th. Somebody planned that.
Where This Sits In The Kid Rock Story
His last studio album was Bad Reputation in 2022, which was the worst-performing record of his career. Since then he’s been more visible than ever, from co-headlining the Rock The Country festivals to the halftime show to a number one on a chart he’d never charted on. The Christian album is the first full-length attempt to turn that visibility back into music.
It also lands in a strange week for faith in heavy music. On Monday, Nicko McBrain explained that a pastor told him to stay in Iron Maiden rather than quit for his beliefs. Kid Rock went the other way and built an entire record around his. Rock has always had room for both: Brian ‘Head’ Welch’s faith didn’t stop Korn, and there’s an entire lineage of Christian metalcore that gets heavier than most of what’s on mainstream rock radio. The difference with Kid Rock is that he’s not asking to be let in. He’s walking in with Eminem.
What We Don’t Know Yet
No label has been named. No tour has been attached to the album, and no full tracklist beyond the songs named above has been published. If a tour follows, expect it to look like the last one: big, loud, and sold to a very specific audience. We’ll update this piece when the tracklist drops.
