Melodic death metal didn’t just lose a singer when Tomas Lindberg died in 2025; it lost its heartbeat. But as the April 24 release of The Ghost Of A Future Dead looms like a spectral shadow, we’re learning that Tomas didn’t leave without a fight. This record isn’t some scavenged collection of basement demos—it is a meticulously directed, posthumous middle finger to mortality, overseen by Lindberg down to the very last scream.
This week on The Loaded Radio Podcast, we’re joined by founding bassist Jonas Björler for an absolute gut-punch of an interview. We’re talking about the final sessions, the crushing reality of losing a brother, and the terrifying question every fan is whispering: Is this the end of At The Gates?
Most “posthumous” albums feel like a cash grab. Not this one. Jonas Björler reveals on The Loaded Radio Podcast that The Ghost Of A Future Dead was actually completed two years ago. The band sat on it, waiting, hoping for a recovery that never came. Because of that delay, what we’re getting is 100% pure, unfiltered Lindberg. He wasn’t just the singer; he was the director. From the “In Dark Distortion” atmosphere to the crushing weight of “Parasitical Hive,” Tomas’s fingerprints are all over the glass.
“Nothing was left to chance,” the band says. “This album is Tomas’s legacy.” If you’ve been following the Gothenburg scene since the 90s, this isn’t just an album—it’s a funeral rite played at 200 BPM.
The lead single, “The Fever Mask,” is exactly what you want from At The Gates: raw, melodic, and lyrically devastating. Jonas tells us it was one of the last songs written for the album, and it stands as a testament to Tomas’s ability to find beauty in the dissonance even while facing the end.

We didn’t pull any punches on The Loaded Radio Podcast. We asked Jonas straight up: Can At The Gates survive this? Replacing a vocalist is one thing; replacing a philosopher and a pioneer like Tomas Lindberg is a different beast entirely. Jonas is candid about the “unfathomable” grief and the logistical nightmare of moving forward. While the album title The Ghost Of A Future Dead suggests a sense of finality, the conversation on the show proves that the band’s impact is immortal, even if the lineup isn’t.
But wait, the metal onslaught doesn’t stop with the Gothenburg legends. In the second half of this episode, Scott Penfold takes the mic to tear through the week’s most explosive headlines. We’re breaking down the holy grail discovery of Black Sabbath’s legendary “Earth” tapes, giving you the latest on ex-KISS shredder Bruce Kulick’s recovery following successful heart surgery, and dissecting the controversial new touring lineup for Marilyn Manson. From medical miracles to unearthed doom history, we’ve got the full report on The Loaded Radio Podcast.
The Bottom Line At The Gates returns on April 24, 2026, with The Ghost Of A Future Dead, featuring the final recordings of the late Tomas Lindberg. Jonas Björler joined The Loaded Radio Podcast to break down the 12-track masterpiece, the emotional weight of Lindberg’s 2025 passing, and the uncertain future of the Swedish legends. Additionally, Scott Penfold discusses the latest news regarding Black Sabbath, Bruce Kulick, and Marilyn Manson.

Damn, Derrick, we see you! Derrick Green, that is—the vocalist of Sepultura. As if he hasn’t been busy enough on the band’s farewell tour, he’s also been working behind the scenes, scheming and plotting on what he’s going to do once the band wraps up. Apparently, he’s got a whole new band in the works.
Green sat down for a new interview with Heavy Matters where he spoke about his plans, post farewell tour:
“I will continue doing music. I definitely would love to do another band. And I’m putting that together as we speak.
“Trying to align with certain people, it’s like starting from scratch, well, not necessarily from scratch, but it’s definitely a challenge to form that connection with people again, different people. After being with a band for so long — I’ve been especially with Andreas and Paulo for so many years, since like 1998, so it’s interesting to think back and then now be where we’re at, where it’s just, like, ‘Okay, I’ll try to find other people to jam with.’ It’s exciting, I have to say.”
Green then went a little more in depth about what he feels the potential is for the new project, saying:
“I was able to learn so much and take away so much being with Sepultura, and I will use different elements from that. Then, the hardcore, of course, it’s always flowing in my blood. And then also a lot of melodical-type stuff I was doing. I felt that I’ve grown and evolved in being able to do that. So I wanna have a mix of that, and for sure have a heavy groove on whatever it is I’m gonna do in the future. So I’m looking forward to really combining all those different elements.”
Good for you, Derrick. A true artist never stops, or whatever that saying is (that is a saying, right?). Sepultura is currently finishing the North American leg of their final tour cycle, currently with Exodus, Biohazard, and Tribal Gaze in tow. They’ll be starting the European leg in June.

Perhaps you saw fakemink — one of our favorite new artists of last year — at Coachella earlier this month. If not, perhaps you saw photos of Hunter Biden — son of former US President Joe Biden — hanging out with the London rapper backstage during the festival’s second weekend. When those photos went viral, a lot of people thought they were AI-generated, considering the 56-year-old lobbyist/businessman is not the type of person you might expect to enjoy an off-kilter cloud rap set at Coachella. But fakemink associate Christian Thomas-Irving, aka CTi, confirmed to Stereogum that the encounter did in fact happen, and TMZ confirmed that it was real, too. Now, Biden himself has broken his legendary silence on the matter.
