Midway through my video chat with Cootie Catcher, guitarist/vocalist/beatmaker Nolan Jakupovski suddenly wields a prop: “This, I think, is what we want to sound like.” He’s holding a copy of the Pastels’ 1998 remix album Illuminati, on which the Glasgow indie greats have their songs reworked by the likes of My Bloody Valentine, Stereolab, and Jim O’Rourke. “A lot of the songs on here, I hear them, and I’m just like, ‘Oh, this is literally what we want to do, but live.’”

Angela Gossow Gives Arch Enemy Vocalist Lauren Hart Her Flowers: “She is Angela Reincarnate”
In the days leading up to Arch Enemy‘s announcement that now ex-Once Human vocalist Lauren Hart would be the person to succeed Alissa White-Gluz behind the mic, there were rumors and more than a few hopeful fans trying to manifest the return of Angela Gossow into the universe. That ultimately didn’t happen, but one person that’s happy it didn’t turn out that way is none other than Gossow herself.
In a recent social media post, Gossow praised Hart not only for her vocal prowess, but her sensibilities as a human being.
“My sister at [heart]. Such a warm and genuine human. We share the same taste in music, the same vocal technique and dedication to music, people and fitness. We have known each other personally since many years. Been following her journey with Once Human, was hoping for her breakthrough. Then I crossed my fingers for her joining another known metal band. Didn’t work out. She never gave up!”
In her statement, Gossow admitted to trying to have Hart join another group she was putting together, but that never came to fruition. That project’s style, according to Gossow, would have been some sort of amalgamation of Dimmu Borgir, Arch Enemy, In Flames, Machine Head, and Once Human.
After asking Hart for some vocal cover tracks to gauge her abilities, Gossow began trying to get the other musicians together to create the band. But fate would change all that when Arch Enemy was suddenly without a vocalist. And though she admitted she considered rejoining the band herself, she said she couldn’t find it in her with motherhood and her current work as the band’s manager to make it work.
It was with that realization that she said she knew Hart would be the perfect fit.
“We received many applications from great vocalists all over the world. I put Lauren forward to the guys. Michael [Amott, Arch Enemy’s founding guitarist] connected. She recorded vocals in December 2025. She rose. Like a Phoenix to the sky. So intense. So glorious. She is Angela reincarnate. Exceeding my skills. Ready to last for decades. I am honoured and humbled to be working with her. Finally.”
Gossow also wished White-Gluz the best in her solo endeavor:
“All the best to Alissa! She is gonna kill it with her solo album! Wanted to do it since 2016. She has got some great female talent at her side and will leave her mark in the world of metal for sure:)”
