    This is not a timid cover. It is a bold reimagining of a Lana Del Rey classic filtered through arena rock instincts.

    I have always loved the original by Falco; this new interpretation surprised me in ways I did not expect. Rather than simply updating the production, the band reshapes the spirit of the track and drags it into a darker, modern dimension.

    The verse shifts the atmosphere. Love Ghost blend almost alternative rap elements with a slow, deliberate groove, and that contrast works remarkably well. The rhythm does not rush; it creeps forward with confidence. At the same time, the vocal carries a hypnotic and slightly spooky tone that keeps you glued to the speakers. It feels intimate, almost claustrophobic, yet it never loses control.

    Then the chorus arrives, and here the band shows respect for the original structure. The repeated “Amadeus” still lands with that iconic pulse that once sent the world into a frenzy. However, the delivery feels heavier and more cinematic. The hook remains infectious; it now echoes through a darker emotional corridor.

  • Watch the Skies (2025)

    For a movie that preserves the 2010s type of speculative sci-fi in a 1980s story arc, Watch the Skies delivers quirky Swedish weirdness in a story that makes sense without being saccharine.

    If you enjoyed films like Cloak and Dagger and The Last Starfighter in the 1980s, you will find the tropes of shattered families, lost trust, and general lack of faith in ourselves and society to be familiar.

    The story line involves a group of Swedish UFO researchers — the entire movie is in perfect English, for reasons not entirely understood here — searching for a UFO that they are tracking through weather patterns.

    Like a solid episode of Doctor Who, the storyline deepens as more is revealed about the characters and the science behind their search, while characters are shot through with doubt about their mission and place in life.

    With an amazing immersive minimalist soundtrack and strong performances by Swedish actors you may know from more “serious” cinema, this movie keeps action frequent and interesting even if not particularly large events are on the plate.

    Every piece of the story is used in parallel against each other, making the script feel more like sifting through chaos to find a core, than pursuing a linear narrative.

    Despite having its roots firmly in genres of the past, this movie looks toward the future with a type new century feel, and captures that unique Swedish outlook which is both whimsical and grimly comedic at the same time.

     STUFF I MISSED FROM 2025
    (Part 1)

    At the end of every year, I put out my top 10 albums list and a month or two later I find some gem of an album that deserved  to be on the list.  Should I re-do the list?  Heck no!  If I did, I’d keep finding more great tunes and in 2026 I’d be putting out a revised Best of 2012.  Also, I’m not pretending to be the ultimate authority on what’s better than what. I’m just trying to spread good music to more people, so the artists I like will get more attention, make more money, and create more great music; kind of selfish and benevolent at the same time.  Anyhow, with that out of the way, here’s one of a few albums that probably deserved to be in my top ten for last year:


    My first awareness of Amy Tung Barrysmith came when I bought the two albums by Slower (in my 2024 Top 10).  I saw she was in a band called Year Of The Cobra but didn’t investigate.  Fast forward to January 2026, when I checked out the Obelisk’s 2025 Top Albums list and saw all the attention this Year Of The Cobra album got.  I felt obligated to listen, and was hooked in almost instantly.  I listened to it multiple times without realizing it is just drums and bass;  Amy is that good of a bass player.  Anyhow, here are a couple of my favorites from an album without any weak tracks:
