Canada’s rising extreme metal force Eaten By Sharks return with a vengeance, announcing their upcoming full-length album The Undertow Of Hate , set for release July 17, 2026 via CDN Records. Leading the charge is the album’s first single, “Capsized,” arriving May 30 and delivering a crushing preview of the band’s most focused and punishing material to date.
Blending progressive death metal with technical precision, groove-heavy riffs, and deathcore aggression, Eaten By Sharks have evolved far beyond their earlier Eradication era. With The Undertow Of Hate , the band leans fully into a composition-driven approach, crafting songs that prioritize flow, momentum, and unpredictability over formula.
“Capsized” serves as the opening descent into the album’s dark conceptual narrative. It captures the moment where calm waters give way to chaos, setting the tone for a cinematic journey through isolation, destruction, and transformation at sea. The track showcases the band’s signature balance of polyrhythmic complexity, shifting time signatures, and straight crushing groove, all while maintaining cohesion.

“Eaten By Sharks follow up their 2022 release, Eradication , with a more refined and fully realized record in The Undertow of Hate . This album reflects a deeper understanding of who we are as artists. We took time to fully immerse ourselves in the writing process and build a cohesive concept rooted in a single cinematic moment of horror. The record follows a journey that begins in calm, descends into chaos at sea, and ultimately returns to where it started, transformed into something darker and irreversible.
Throughout the album, subtle thematic details and visual elements tie directly into the overarching concept, creating a unified experience between the music and the artwork. Musically, we push further into the sound we’ve become known for, blending polyrhythms, odd time signatures, and crushing grooves while always prioritizing flow and momentum between ideas.
Working again with producer Christian Donaldson helped tighten the performances and bring out the best in the material. The Undertow of Hate represents some of our most focused and punishing work to date. It is heavy, groovy, and constantly evolving without losing coherence.”
Produced by Eaten By Sharks and Christian Donaldson, and engineered, mixed, and mastered by Donaldson, the album captures the band at their sharpest and most intentional. Each track shifts between technical brutality, groove-laden passages, and relentless aggression, all tied together by a dark conceptual thread rooted in nautical horror.

Slam Dunk Festival Release Statement Following Online Allegations
Slam Dunk have released a statement following online allegations made against a festival director.
Earlier this evening (April 24), the festival team wrote “We are aware of allegations published yesterday relating to one of our directors. We take these allegations seriously and understand that they may be distressing and hard to process for our community.”
“Our Slam Dunk fans, staff, and artists are, as always, our top priority. While he strongly refutes these allegations, the director in question has agreed, in consultation with the board, to step down from Slam Dunk operations while this matter is ongoing.”
They continue, “Slam Dunk remains committed to maintaining a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for all employees, partners and customers. Our values and culture are fundamental to how we operate, and we are committed to upholding them.”
They conclude by stating that “It would be inappropriate for us to comment further on an ongoing legal matter. However, we promise transparency and honesty to our Slam Dunk community and will provide updates when it is appropriate to do so.”
Slam Dunk Festival is still set to take place on May 23 and 24 in Hatfield and Leeds.
