(In April of this year Antiq Records released a new album by the French black metal band Tarask. Comrade Aleks was drawn to it, and followed up his listening with this interview of the project’s creator.) I fell for this bait again and initiated an interview with the band, whose new album description included the […]
Europe have released “The Cult Of Ignorance”, the second single from their upcoming album Come This Madness, which arrives on September 25 through Silver Lining Music.
Built around a strong hook and an arena-ready chorus, “The Cult Of Ignorance” pairs a catchy hard rock approach with lyrics that reflect modern society while maintaining an upbeat feel.
The song arrives with a video featuring several well-known guests alongside Europe, including actress Malin Åkerman, former world No. 1 tennis player Stefan Edberg, astronaut Christer Fuglesang, Howling Pelle of The Hives, Mikael Åkerfeldt and Fredrik Åkesson of Opeth, E-Type, and a range of personalities from the worlds of music, film, sports, fashion, and science.
Frontman Joey Tempest said: “I love this track! It’s a straightforward rock anthem with lyrics reflecting the times we live in, written slightly tongue in cheek. Mic [Michaeli, keyboards] came to me with this song idea while on tour in South America — I thought it was crazy good! We finished it together and it’s become a real banger! The title was inspired by a phrase coined by author and biochemist Isaac Asimov. It reflects some of the negative tendencies emerging in our world today, though it is written in a slightly light-hearted tone.”
More than four decades into their career, Europe continue to move forward while staying connected to the sound that made them one of Sweden’s most successful hard rock exports. The new album explores themes found throughout songs such as “One On One”, “The Cult Of Ignorance”, and the title track, “Come This Madness”.
The first single, “One On One”, was released in April and served as the first preview of the band’s latest studio effort. Built around a driving bass line, layered melodies, and a powerful chorus, the track blends classic Europe elements with a modern production style.
Come This Madness was recorded at RMV Studio in Stockholm and features guest appearances from Tobias Forge of Ghost and Mikael Åkerfeldt of Opeth. Production duties were handled by Tom Dalgety, known for his work with Ghost, Rammstein, Pixies, The Cult, and Opeth. The album was mixed by Mike Fraser, whose résumé includes AC/DC, Van Halen, Metallica, The Cult, and Loverboy.
Speaking about Dalgety‘s involvement, Tempest said: “It was a true pleasure working with Tom. He’s creative, musical, and incredibly intuitive — he really became a sixth member of the band during the writing and recording of this album. We even invited him to co-write on some of the songs.”
In addition to the album release, Europe are preparing for an extensive touring schedule that includes festival appearances and The Final Countdown 40th-anniversary tour. The trek begins in Glasgow on September 30 and will celebrate one of the band’s most recognizable records while showcasing material from Come This Madness.
The artwork for Come This Madness was created by Storm Studios, whose previous work includes projects for Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, and Muse.
The relentlessly playful and inventive Philly rapper Tierra Whack emerged as a dizzy artistic force on her 15-minute musical/visual feast Whack World in 2018, though she didn’t release her proper debut album World Wide Whack until 2024. I’d say she’s quietly become an influential figure in that time; it would be hard to imagine a figure like Doechii emerging if Whack hadn’t come first. So it’s a good time for Whack to announce a new mixtape.
Tim Montana has announced the release of his new album, Entire State Of Tim Montana, arriving July 31 via BMG. The 16-track effort features contributions from several major names in rock, including Jerry Cantrell of Alice In Chains, Slash of Guns N’ Roses, and Billy F Gibbons of ZZ Top. The record also includes appearances from actors Martin Sheen, Charlie Sheen, and Robert Patrick.
Alongside the album announcement, Tim Montana has released the second single, “Brown Sugar”, a collaboration featuring Billy F. Gibbons and Slash.
Discussing the track, Montana said: “Recording ‘Brown Sugar’ with Billy F Gibbons and Slash was a full-circle moment for me. My first brush with music was finding a Guns N’ Roses tape, and later I became a die-hard ZZ Top fan. Billy is like family, and seeing him play ‘Brown Sugar’ at our Wise River Club made me realize it had to be the one. To have these childhood heroes, Billy, who’s become a mentor, and Slash, who lit that early spark on this track with me, is beyond a dream.”
The album follows the release of “Break Me Down”, the first single from the upcoming record. Driven by heavy guitar riffs and a strong melodic chorus, the song offered an early look at the direction of Montana’s latest material.
Speaking about Entire State Of Tim Montana, he explained: “This record is a collision of my heroes and my scars, the loudest moments I’ve ever lived and the quiet truths I couldn’t outrun. Don’t worry there’s some fun moments too. It’s not over-polished, it’s not safe, but it’s exactly who I am.”
Over the past several years, Tim Montana has built a reputation for combining Southern rock influences, hard rock energy, and a blue-collar approach to songwriting. His music often draws from themes of independence, perseverance, and life in the American West, backed by distorted guitars and direct, no-frills hooks.
His path to success has been anything but conventional. Growing up in Montana under modest circumstances, he eventually relocated to Nashville and worked his way into the music industry. Along the way, he caught the attention of television host David Letterman, who personally invited him to perform on The Late Show With David Letterman.
Montana also developed a longstanding creative relationship with Billy F. Gibbons, resulting in collaborations such as “This Beard Came Here to Party”, a song adopted by the 2013 World Series champion Boston Red Sox and the Nashville Predators during their 2017 Stanley Cup playoff run. He later co-wrote songs for Kid Rock, including “Tennessee Mountain Top” and “Greatest Show On Earth” from Sweet Southern Sugar, which debuted in the Billboard 200 Top 10.
His connections within the entertainment world extended beyond music as well. Charlie Sheen publicly supported Montana’s work and later directed the video for “Mostly Stoned”.
Following the release of Long Shots in 2021, Montana continued incorporating grunge influences into his sound while maintaining a focus on storytelling. With Entire State Of Tim Montana, he brings together hard rock riffs, personal reflections, and contributions from some of the biggest names in the genre, making it one of the most notable releases of his career to date.
This summer, Metalville is releasing reissues of two out-of-print albums by Chris Caffery: Pins and Needles on June 26th, and Faces on July 30th. Pins and Needles (originally released in […]

Produced by Klas Ahlund and Kenneth Blume (FKA Kenny Beats), the record comprises ten new tracks, which look a bit like this:
1. Say Yes 2. Shine Again 3. Don’t Make It Weird 4. We Might As Well Be Strangers ft. Wednesday 5. C.E.O. 6. Hoops 7. Nowhere 8. The Show Must Go On 9. Up In The Clouds 10. The LA Sound
And the artwork looks like this:
The band have also shared a new track in the form of ‘We Might As Well Be Strangers’, which features a guest vocal from Wednesday’s Karly Hartzman.
A vibrant, tight and brilliantly funny piece of classic Weezer self-deprecation and lovelorn wonderfulness, it feels definitive as well as fresh as a daisy. Catchy in all the right ways as it is fuzzy, you’re going to be humming it from now till forever.
The band are set to head out on a special tour this Autumn which they are dubbing The Gathering. You can check out the dates of it below, with support from The Shins and Silversun Pickups.

Kennyyyyyyy! Here’s a rhetorical question: When are we getting Kenny Beats back again? Ever since the producer started going by “Kenneth Blume,” his actual government name, he’s been thriving. He produced last year’s best album. He co-produced the new Weezer joint that just got announced. He’s making rock records, and he’s making big moves. But…
Rising German melancholic heavy metal outfit The Night Eternal will release their Metal Blade debut, “Cold Velvet”, on August 21st. Since their foundation in 2018, the quintet has built themselves a serious reputation with their ’70s and ’80s guitar-driven sounds in their very own sinister guise. The band’s previous two full-length, “Moonlit Cross” (2021) and… Continue Reading →
