  • Tobias Forge Hits Pause on Ghost — But Film Projects, a Secret Album, and Scuba Diving Say Otherwise

    ghost-mary-on-a-cross-live

Why Is Tobias Forge Taking a Break From Touring?

Because after 15 years of nonstop momentum, he says he needs to reset physically, mentally, and creatively — while focusing on family, film projects, and fresh music outside Ghost.

    TL;DR

Tobias Forge is taking a hiatus from touring following Ghost’s 2026 Skeletá world tour. He plans to spend more time at home, complete two undisclosed film projects, and release a non-Ghost album recorded before the tour. He also intends to pursue long-delayed personal interests like scuba diving.

I’ve seen what happens when artists refuse to slow down. Creativity thins out. Performances become mechanical. Tobias Forge’s decision doesn’t feel like retreat — it feels like preservation.

Following Ghost’s massive Skeletá world tour cycle, Forge revealed he’s stepping back from the road. Speaking with Full Metal Jackie, he was unusually candid about the personal cost of 15 years spent orbiting stages and tour buses.

“I’ve had two kids waiting at home with my wife for 15 years,” Forge admitted. “I’ve definitely come to a point where I feel, physically and mentally, I need to be home.”

There’s no rockstar mythology in that statement. Just reality.

His children are now 17 — an age where time suddenly stops feeling infinite. Forge’s comments cut into something rarely acknowledged openly in heavy music: the long shadow cast by constant touring.

This pause isn’t only about rest.

Forge insists that stepping away is essential for creativity itself.

“The only way to get new musical ideas is to just step away.”

Ghost’s Hiatus Doesn’t Mean Tobias Forge Is Slowing Down

If anything, Forge’s schedule suggests the opposite.

He confirmed he has extensive plans already in motion, including:

    • Two undisclosed film projects
    • A completed album tied to a separate musical outlet
    • Personal pursuits long pushed aside

    That’s not inactivity. That’s redirection.

Artists like Forge rarely stop creating — they simply shift mediums.

    A Secret Album Already Exists

One of the most intriguing revelations is that Forge recorded another album before Skeletour began.

    Importantly:

    👉 It’s not Ghost
    👉 It’s already finished

That opens the door to real curiosity.

Is it darker? Stranger? More experimental? Forge has long hinted that Ghost is only one channel for his creative output.

Scuba Diving, Claustrophobia, and the Mask Connection

In a previous Metal Hammer interview, Forge spoke about wanting to take up scuba diving — something deeply personal rather than casually recreational.

“I need to make sure that I get to terms with my claustrophobia.”

That detail hits differently when you remember:

✔ Ghost’s performances require elaborate masks
    ✔ Masks physically restrict
    ✔ Claustrophobia is very real

Scuba diving becomes symbolic here — confrontation rather than hobby.

Forge has described himself as “maritime” and magnetically drawn to the ocean, even joking that in an alternate life he’d be a wreck diver.

The Skeletour’s Most Divisive Element: No Phones

Ghost’s phone-free policy sparked strong reactions.

Fans were required to seal devices inside Yondr pouches before entering venues — a decision Forge defended unapologetically.

“If you have 10,000 people at a concert and 8,000 of them are holding a phone, there’s something deeply disconnected.”

Love the rule or hate it, the reasoning aligns directly with Ghost’s ethos:

    • Immersion
    • Theatre
    • Presence
    • Experience over documentation

Forge’s stance taps into a broader cultural friction in live music. Are concerts shared experiences — or content capture sessions?

From Anonymity to Exposure — and Relief

Forge led Ghost anonymously for years before being publicly identified in 2017 following a lawsuit by former members.

Rather than framing the moment as disastrous, Forge later described his unmasking as “a relief.”

That admission reframed Ghost’s mystique through a human lens rather than a theatrical one.

    What This Break Really Signals

    This doesn’t read like burnout.

    It reads like recalibration.

    Forge is:

    ✔ Prioritizing family
    ✔ Protecting long-term creativity
    ✔ Expanding into film
    ✔ Releasing new music
    ✔ Tackling personal fears

Historically, artists were expected to run until collapse. Forge appears to be choosing sustainability instead.

The Question Ghost Fans Are Quietly Asking

    Hiatuses tend to trigger anxiety.

    But realistically:

    Ghost isn’t ending
    ❌ Forge isn’t retiring

Distance from touring cycles often precedes reinvention — not disappearance.

    flyleaf-1_JamesMinchin

Nostalgia is one hell of a drug, man. It makes people do some wild things and for some bands, it’s enough to get people to reunite and make some cold, hard cash. And that’s basically what we’ve got here — alternative metal band Flyleaf announced a 20th anniversary tour set for this summer that reunites the band with their former vocalist Lacy Sturm.

The tour will go from July 8 in Atlanta, Georgia until the final show on July 31 in Anaheim, California. Other stops include shows in Philly, Boston, Chicago, and Dallas.

Tickets will go on sale to the general public on Friday, February 27 at 10 a.m. local time. There’s also a Citi cardmember presale going on right now until Thursday, February 26 at 10 p.m. local time through the Citi Entertainment program.
