P.O.D. have turned the zombie apocalypse into a single, “Outbreak”, which the band calls one of the heaviest things it has written, comes with a frantic new video and a guest spot from Norma Jean vocalist Cory Brandan.

Grammy-winning producer Will Yip (Turnstile, Code Orange, Circa Survive) handled the track. It is the first new original song from P.O.D. since the 2024 album Veritas.

The Brandan collaboration traces back to P.O.D.‘s 2024 U.S. tour with Norma Jean. Vocalist Sonny Sandoval says, “We have known [Norma Jean] and members for a while, but that was the first time we toured together and really got the chance to bond as friends.”

Sandoval continues: “This is possibly one of the heaviest songs P.O.D. has ever written, so we wanted to showcase a guest vocalist who reflected that.

“Cory‘s voice and tone bring a specific intensity and command that draws you in. Our voices together deliver an authoritative energy that matches the power of the song.”

Guitarist Marcos Curiel says the subject matter was an easy pick. “As avid fans of zombie apocalypse, video games, and movies, it seemed only fitting to compose a song about this topic. The song delicately straddles the line between nonfiction and fiction. It’s fun yet hard-hitting, bridging the gap between what’s real and what’s not.”

The song started as a rough guitar demo from Curiel, and the title came with it. Sandoval says, “Marcos sent me a rough guitar demo, which had the working title of ‘Outbreak’. This by far was the heaviest idea yet, and I immediately texted him how much I loved it.

“Once I heard it, I knew there was no need to change the title and use it as the lyrical theme. The guitar riff and warning sample immediately gave me a frantic, apocalyptic, doomsday-type vibe.”

Bassist Traa Daniels expects the song to go over well live. “This track is destined to be a crowd pleaser, with the apocalyptic overtone and a zombie-inspired theme that can be closely related to many current events. This was a fun song to record in the studio and is one of my personal all-time favorites.”

P.O.D. has been busy on the road. Over the past three years, the band has played U.S. shows with Daughtry, Norma Jean, Limp Bizkit, Creed and Seether, and toured Europe alongside Godsmack, Drowning Pool and Skindred. A Latin American run took in Brazil, Chile, Argentina, Colombia and Costa Rica. This summer’s 2026 “European Take-Over” tour covered 20 festivals across 16 countries, and the rest of the year brings more festival dates in the U.S., Mexico and Australia.

Sandoval says the travel has left its mark. “Music connects. With so much division, music is the one thing that unifies. It truly is the universal language,” says Sandoval. “Being able to perform around the world and for so many beautiful people has opened our eyes and has completely changed us for the good.

“Music is life, and it keeps us going. I feel like we’re always learning and growing. I think life can be confusing and complex at times, but for those moments that we get to be on stage together, everything seems to make sense.”

That touring lined up with the release of Veritas, which cracked the Top 10 on the U.S. Billboard Current Hard Rock, Current Rock and Current Alternative Album charts. The album has passed 83 million total streams and features the singles “Drop,” with Lamb of God‘s Randy Blythe, and “Afraid To Die,” with Jinjer‘s Tatiana Shmayluk. It picked up major playlisting on Spotify, Apple, Amazon Music, Pandora and Deezer, along with support from SiriusXM Octane, Loudwire, BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 2, Kerrang! Radio, Metal Hammer, Knotfest, Inked, Revolver and others.

P.O.D. reaches its 35th anniversary in 2027, and the band shows no sign of slowing down. Sandoval says, “We’ve always taken it one moment at a time, and we’ve always been true to ourselves, and the sound reflects that. The world doesn’t want truth; they want it their way, but we will continue to write for those who want to be empowered and overcome their most dismal situations.”

“Outbreak” finds P.O.D. picking up the pace. “I believe we tapped into something very special and used the momentum of Veritas to take the songs to a different level,” says Sandoval. “We have always written our way and never try to duplicate other albums. This is P.O.D. 2027!”

In 1979, two British musicians, singer David Cowles and producer/multi-instrumentalist Richard Haines, got together to form a synthpop duo called 50/50. At the time, both of them had demanding careers outside of music, and they weren’t willing to devote themselves to the group full-time. Every week, though, they spent multiple nights writing songs together, and they built up quite a catalogue — more than 150 tracks, the vast majority of which were never released.

READING, PA — Some bands form. Some bands disappear. And some refuse to stay dead.
Old-school death metal veterans Threnody have unleashed “Flashlight over Filth,” the first single from their forthcoming EP They Looked Better Dead . Released August 19, 2026, the track marks the latest chapter in a story that began nearly four decades ago in the underground of Reading, Pennsylvania.
In 1988 , five young musicians from Berks County, Pennsylvania, joined forces with a singular purpose: to create music capable of devastating everything in its path. Todd handled the microphone, Rich took command of the drums, Bill and Sean wielded guitars, and Dave held down the bass. Together, they became Threnody .
Initially influenced by underground gods including Carcass, Entombed, and Obituary , the band quickly moved beyond imitation, developing its own identity and establishing itself as a formidable force in the Reading metal scene.
For nearly two years, Threnody sharpened its attack from the top of the local underground, eventually unleashing the six-song EP Internal Infestation in late 1990. The release ignited a demand for live performances, sending the band into a relentless campaign of shows and further honing its lethal sound.
Their proving ground was Unisound , Reading’s only all-ages club at the time, where Threnody continued building its reputation among the underground faithful.
The band began writing more material and recorded another EP, but before that next chapter could be released, fate intervened. The record remained unreleased, and the original members eventually went their separate ways.
Then came 2020.
During the global pandemic, guitarist Bill set out to reignite the torch and reunite Threnody’s original members. Founding members Sean and Dave returned, while vocalist Todd and drummer Rich were unable to participate. With the world locked down and distance becoming little more than a technical obstacle, Harry from the UK and David from Ecuador joined the resurrected lineup on vocals and drums.
Rather than simply dusting off the past, Threnody took eight songs originally written more than 30 years earlier and re-visioned them for a new era. The result was the band’s first full-length album, Rid of Flesh .
Now Threnody is moving forward once again.
“Flashlight over Filth” serves as the first single from the upcoming EP They Looked Better Dead , delivering another dose of the band’s old-school death metal and grindcore attack. The track was produced by Threnody , with mixing and mastering handled by Steve Perrino .
This isn’t nostalgia dressed up as death metal.
This is a band that was there when the underground was being built, disappeared, came back decades later, and decided it still wasn’t finished.
The riffs are still loaded.
The filth is still there.
And the torch is still burning.
Let it rip.

ABOUT THRENODY

Formed in 1988 in Reading, Pennsylvania, Threnody emerged from the formative underground death metal scene of the late 1980s. Influenced initially by Carcass, Entombed, and Obituary, the band quickly forged its own identity and became a force in the local scene.
In 1990, Threnody released the six-song EP Internal Infestation and built a reputation through relentless live performances, including shows at Reading’s legendary all-ages venue Unisound. A second EP was recorded but never released before the original members eventually went their separate ways.
Three decades later, guitarist Bill began the process of resurrecting the band. With Sean and Dave returning and Harry from the UK and David from Ecuador joining on vocals and drums, Threnody transformed eight songs originally written in the early 1990s into the 2020 full-length Rid of Flesh .
Now the band continues that resurrection with its forthcoming EP They Looked Better Dead and its first single, “Flashlight over Filth.”
Threnody isn’t looking to recreate the past. They’re bringing it back to life.

North American Co-Headlining Tour With Metal Church To Commence Next Month + Spring 2027 Leg Of Metal Saint Tour Announced!

ARMORED SAINT today presents their visualizer for “Not On Your Life.” The track comes by way of the band’s critically acclaimed new full-length, Emotion Factory Reset, released earlier this year on Metal Blade Records. The kaleidoscopic clip was created by Costin Chioreanu of TWILIGHT13MEDIA.

Comments vocalist John Bush, “The opening lyrics are, ‘You already know my name is John Doe / Yeah you already know but still give it a go.’ I think Phil [Sandoval] had the term, ‘you already know.’ Rhyming, I was, ‘oh, okay, this is cool, like, John Doe.’ There are a couple meanings to it: the cool guy from X is John Doe. It also means that you don’t know who this person is. It led to me thinking in terms of something a little vague, which sometimes I like to do. You already know, yet you don’t know at the same time.

Phil sent me the phrase ‘from dollars to donuts,’ and I got ‘Heavens to Betsy.’ My mom was named Betty, and it’s a little nod to [Bitch vocalist] Betsy Bitch because she’s on Metal Blade. I thought, ‘why not just have a little correlation here.’ It’s a cool, great rock song, and it seems to be some people’s favorite. The lyrics ‘dollars to donuts’ sounds like something somebody said on the streets of Manhattan in 1950. I also used the phrase ‘lying on the floor in the drunk tank.’ ‘Drunk tank’ is another term people don’t really use in 2026.”

ARMORED SAINT will kick off their North American co-headlining tour with Metal Church this November. The Metal Saint Tour 2026 begins on November 2nd in San Juan Capistrano, California and runs through November 21st in Agoura Hills, California with support provided by LiveKill.

Following the fiery response both bands received during their recent shows together in Europe and fans’ excitement for the upcoming Fall shows, a Spring 2027 leg of this killer metal package has also been announced. The journey will commence on March 19th in Austin, Texas and close on April 10th in Las Vegas, Nevada. Support will be provided by One Machine.
