Bloodstock Bound: Stitched

As Bloodstock gets closer, we delve deep into the line up to find out more about some of the bands playing the New Blood and EMP stages at this years event.

Today we chat with Stitched

Please introduce yourselves.

We’re STITCHED, a groove hardcore band from the Black Country. We’re a bunch of mates that somehow turned making angry noise into getting invited to places like Bloodstock.

How would you describe your sound?

It’s heavy, groove-driven hardcore with a bit of metalcore, disco and slam thrown in. We grew up on old Slipknot and all that sort of stuff, so it all ends up in the mix somewhere.

How did you land your spot on the Bloodstock bill?

We just say yes to everything. We’ll talk to anyone and play anywhere, and every now and then it leads to something really cool like this.

What does playing at Bloodstock mean to you?

It’s massive for us. Bloodstock’s local, we’ve been coming here for years with our mates watching bands, and now we’re getting to play it ourselves. It’s pretty surreal.

For people who’ve never seen you live, what can they expect at Bloodstock?

A lot of energy, a lot of noise, and hopefully you’ll hear something you like. We don’t take ourselves too seriously, but we definitely take playing live seriously.

What day are you performing?

Sunday, on the EMP Stage. Come watch us have a dance and punch your mates in the pit

What other bands are you looking forward to watching at Bloodstock this year?

We’re buzzing to be on the same day as Graphic Nature. Those guys are great, so we’re looking forward to catching their set.

Playing the EMP Stage is just the first steppingstone in a bands journey. What’s next in your plans for world domination?

We’re just happy ticking places off as we go. Whether it’s a tiny venue in the middle of nowhere or a country in Europe we definitely didn’t learn about at school, we’re up for it.

Are you camping with the fans? Which campsite are you heading for?

Absolutely. If you see us wandering about, come and say hello. We’re always up for a chat.

You’ve gotta keep hydrated at Bloodstock, what is your drink of choice for the weekend?

A good IPA. Probably more than one.

UK southern rock band Wood Burnt Red will release its debut album, Hold On Tight, on Sept. 4. Produced by Tyler Spicer, the 11-track record will be available on CD, vinyl and digital formats.

The band has also released its latest single, “Fire Me Up,” giving fans another preview of the upcoming album. The track arrived on July 17 alongside an official music video and marks the band’s first co-write with Spicer.

Hold On Tight blends country influences with rock and roll while exploring themes of love, loss, resilience and personal growth across its 11 original songs.

“Fire Me Up” follows the release of the band’s previous single, “Simple Place,” and showcases driving guitar riffs, an anthemic chorus and frontman Tom Franklin’s baritone vocals. The song grew out of the band’s first songwriting collaboration with Spicer, who also produced the album.

“We can’t wait for this track to come out,” says Wood Burnt Red frontman Tom Franklin. “It’s the first song we co-wrote with our incredible producer Tyler Spicer. This collaboration felt like something special from day one. Fire Me Up is a big, heartfelt message to everyone who ever told us we were wasting our time chasing an unrealistic dream. Tyler brought us this idea he had written with us in mind. We instantly loved it, rocked it up, and everything fell into place. The melody and lyrics came naturally. It was one of the easiest songs we have recorded, and we genuinely think it is one of the best.”

Eric Jerardi has announced the release of his new studio album, The Game, which arrives October 30 via Alternator Records/Niche Records with distribution through Sony/The Orchard.

The album’s lead single, “Setting Sun,” is now released with additional singles scheduled every five weeks leading up to the album’s release.

The Game reunites Jerardi with producer Michael James, who previously mixed Jerardi’s 2019 album Occupied. James’ production credits include Robben Ford, Edwin McCain, New Radicals and Sammy Hagar. The album also features the return of Muscle Shoals backing vocalists Cindy and Marie, along with contributions from James and film composer Eric Colvin.

The songs on The Game were born from an unusual songwriting challenge. A close musical friend challenged Jerardi to write 12 songs in 12 weeks, sending him a new phrase every Wednesday that had to be used verbatim in that week’s song. Missing a deadline resulted in a fine, while repeated misses meant elimination from the challenge.

The process led to some of the album’s most personal material. “One More Setting Sun” was inspired by the death of Jerardi’s best friend from pancreatic cancer, while “Hard Being Here” reflects on the loss of his brother in 1988. “A Man Ain’t a Man” was written following the death of his father. Other tracks pushed Jerardi into new creative territory, including writing from fictional perspectives and exploring more introspective themes.

“I’ve always written pretty autobiographically,” Jerardi says. “This process forced me out of my habits. Some songs came from grief. Some came from mistakes I’ve made. Some came from characters I never expected to write. The point wasn’t to make everything perfect. The point was to tell the truth before I could talk myself out of it.”

Jerardi has released 10 nationally distributed albums since 1997. His previous release, Occupied, was produced by David Z and recorded with the Muscle Shoals rhythm section.

Outside of music, Jerardi owns Jerardi’s Little Store in Dayton, Ohio, where fans visit to purchase merchandise and wines from his curated collection. He also hosts the YouTube series Backroom Blues & Bottles, featuring stripped-down performances recorded in the store.

Welcome to this weeks edition of Devil’s Island! Every week we maroon a band or artist on the island and see what they get up to, how they cope with being all alone on a small island in the middle of the ocean. It’s not your average desert island and we’ll see just how each person copes with the extreme conditions.

This week when we arrived at Devil’s Island we find A Permanent Shadow sat on the beach. The island is far from their home, so how did they end up here and how did they cope with life on Devil’s Island?

Welcome to The Razors’e Edge and our somewhat lovely, warm desert island. Don’t worry about it’s name I’m sure it’s not as bad as that would suggest.

You’re marooned here on this island, but before you ended up shipwrecked you chose one album that you couldn’t live without. Which album did you each chose and why?

David Bowie’s Station to Station. It’s a record I could never tire of. To me, it’s the perfect album: short, varied, exciting, unique. Even after so many years, there are always new layers to be discovered, both musically and lyrically. And, oh, the irony, to be stuck in one place and choose a record called Station to Station.

Just behind that palm tree is a shack for each of you to sleep in, with enough space for you to put up a poster on the wall of one album cover. What album cover do you each chose and why?

I’d go with Nadine Sha’s Fast Food. I think Nadine’s voice is amazing, and her music is gorgeous. She’s also a very beautiful, exotic woman with a lovely profile, as pictured on the cover. I’d choose this cover as I think I could stare at if for hours.

There’s also a bar on this here island. But alas each of you only get to choose one drink for the entirety of your stay. What’s your tipple of choice?

Having been teetotal for years, my drink of choice would be a Radler 0.0%, a beer and lemon beverage of Austrian origin.

Your suitcases were lost when your ship sank, but you each managed to salvage one item of band merch. What’s the merch and for what band?

AnI would hang on to my The Cult 1986 T-shirt which I’ve had for ages. The shirt has the original line-up on it, with Jamie and Nigel as rhythm section. The Cult still rule and I think they’ve never made a bad record.swer

You’re sat on the island thinking “I’m stuck here on this island with my bandmates for eternity”… who would you rather have been shipwrecked with?

Luckily, I have no bandmates, what with A Permanent Shadow being a kind of solo project. That said, some female company would be more than welcome.

There’s a walkman in your pocket, on the tape inside is the recording of the one live show that stands out for you. It could be any show, from any band, anywhere in the world. What show is on that walkman?

I’d choose The The’s Comeback Special from 2018. Just a very well executed, beautiful overview of Matt Johnson’s career and incredible songwriting. If bootlegs were admitted, I’d go for Lou Reed Live in Milan in 1989. I attended a different 1989 show by Lou, and it was the most amazing gig I’ve ever seen. To this day, it stands out as the most terrific live show in my life.

You’re getting desperate, you decide the only course of action is to put a message in a bottle and hope someone finds it. Your message could be to any member of any band, but should be the most suitable for a rescue attempt. Who is it?

My message would go out to Bruce Dickinson from Iron Maiden. He’s a pilot and could get me off the island in a heartbeat.

You’ve been stuck here a while and food supplies are running low. There’s only one thing for it… which fellow band member gets sacrificed to help the others survive?

I would have to start chewing off my own calf, I guess. Imaginary friends, of which I have a few, don’t kill the hunger.

Finally, when the ship sank you each managed to save one person from the wreckage. That person is the one musician that has influenced your career the most, shaped your way of thinking and your outlook on life. Who did you save?

If he were still alive, I would have saved David Bowie, though I have the feeling he could have taken care of himself. Of the people still around, I’d save Nadine Shah.
