Eaten By Sharks Unleash Exclusive World Premiere Of “Capsized” On The Zach Moonshine Show

Canadian extreme metal wrecking crew Eaten By Sharks joined The Zach Moonshine Show on Metal Devastation Radio for an exclusive interview and the world premiere of their crushing new single, “Capsized,” giving listeners the first chance anywhere in the world to hear the track before its official release.
The premiere offered fans their first glimpse into the band’s upcoming full-length album, The Undertow Of Hate , scheduled for release on July 17 via CDN Records.
Fresh off the premiere, the band discussed the album’s lengthy creative process, working with renowned producer Christian Donaldson, their love of guitar gear, the importance of real musicianship, and their plans for what they are calling the “Summer of Sharks.”
The Best Material They’ve Ever Written

For Eaten By Sharks, The Undertow Of Hate represents years of work and refinement.
“We’ve been doing this for writing these songs for quite a while now,” the band explained. “It’s taking a while to get it all ready to go. We’re very proud of the stuff that we have recorded now. We wrote a bunch of songs just to be able to come up with the eight songs that we have on the album. It’s the best stuff I think we’ve come up with so far.”
That dedication is immediately evident in “Capsized,” a track that showcases the band’s evolution from the already impressive Eradication era into something even bigger, heavier, and more ambitious.
When asked about hearing the finished product after spending countless hours writing and recording, the band admitted that perspective can become difficult.
“I’ve listened to some of these songs close to a few hundred, maybe a thousand times. By the time you’re done recording and listening to mixes, you’re so far removed from hearing it for the first time. I wish I could hear it for the first time like everybody else.”
Fortunately, listeners on Metal Devastation Radio got exactly that opportunity.
    Teaming Up With CDN Records

The new album marks the band’s first full album campaign with CDN Records after previously releasing Eradication independently before partnering with the label.
“We’re very happy working with the guys from CDN. They’ve really believed in our vision and what we want to do. They kind of latched onto our boat and said, ‘Let us tug you guys along and we’ll get you even further.'”
The partnership appears to be paying off, with multiple singles, music videos, and promotional campaigns already lined up ahead of the album’s release.
    Working With Christian Donaldson

One of the most fascinating parts of the conversation centered around the band’s relationship with producer Christian Donaldson, known for his work with numerous extreme metal artists.
Rather than simply serving as an engineer, Donaldson has become an integral part of the band’s creative process.
“Christian has become a friend now. I can’t really see us working with anybody else.”
The band described how the collaboration has evolved since recording Eradication .
“The first time we went out to record with him, we were just getting to know each other. The second time, all that’s out of the way. Now we’re just getting straight to work.”
That familiarity allowed the producer to contribute creative ideas and arrangements that elevated the material even further.
“We’d be listening to something and he’d stop and say, ‘What if we try this?’ Or I’d have an idea and he’d say, ‘Go ahead, let’s try it.’ We were adding a little extra gravy on top.”
Reflecting on the final result, the band didn’t hide their excitement.
“There was a point where we finished recording all the guitars and were listening to the rough mixes, and I remember sitting there thinking, ‘Wow, this is some of the best stuff I’ve ever been a part of personally.'”
Old School Metal Mentality Meets Modern Technology

The interview also veered into a deep dive on guitar gear, modern modeling technology, tube amplifiers, seven-string guitars, and the never-ending obsession that guitar players share.
While the band embraces modern tools like the Quad Cortex and Neural DSP technology, they still maintain a traditional approach to live performance.
“We like tube amps. We like cabs on stage. We like to feel it.”
At the same time, they appreciate the convenience modern technology provides.
“I can walk into a venue with two bags on my shoulders, both my guitars, and I’m good to go.”
The band’s current sound revolves around seven-string guitars tuned to drop A, allowing for greater range while maintaining the crushing heaviness fans expect.
“It’s kind of like the way a seven-string is supposed to be used. You get that extended range while still having room for melodies and leads.”
No Clicks. No Triggers. Just Pure Power.

One of the most revealing moments came when the conversation turned to the band’s live performance philosophy.
Unlike many modern extreme metal acts, Eaten By Sharks keeps things raw.
“We don’t use any triggers. He’s just heel up and smashes the drums.”
The band praised drummer Justin’s intensity and physicality as a major component of their sound.
“We have a monster of a drummer. The guy is like 6’6″. He just wails on the drums.”
That natural chemistry remains central to how the band operates both live and in rehearsal.
“We don’t use click tracks. We’re just balls to the wall.”
Real Musicianship In The Age Of AI

The discussion eventually shifted toward AI-generated music and whether technology can ever truly replace human creativity.
    The band’s answer was clear.
“It’s all about the journey in between.”
While acknowledging technological advancements, they emphasized the importance of genuine human experience in songwriting.
“People recognize that when they’re listening to songs, whether they know it’s there or not. You can tell when something is a lived experience.”
The band compared the process of creating music together to taming a wild force.
“Sometimes you’re trying to tame this beast, and then all of a sudden this flow starts happening. You can feel it like waves.”
Moments like those, they believe, are impossible to manufacture.
“When it happens and everybody locks in, that’s magic. That’s music.”
    The Undertow Is Coming

With “Capsized” now unleashed, Eaten By Sharks are preparing for an aggressive release campaign leading into The Undertow Of Hate .
Additional singles, multiple music videos, live performances, and more surprises are already in the works.
“It’s going to be the Summer of Sharks.”
For fans of progressive death metal, technical brutality, crushing grooves, and bands unafraid to balance modern precision with old-school authenticity, The Undertow Of Hate is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated underground metal releases of the summer.
The exclusive world premiere of “Capsized” on The Zach Moonshine Show proved one thing beyond any doubt:
Eaten By Sharks aren’t drifting with the current.
They’re steering directly into the storm.
The Undertow Of Hate arrives July 17 via CDN Records.

  • Desecresy – The Secret of Death Review

The philosophical quandary of innovation vs consistency rages on. For every Opeth or Blut Aus Nord, who only know how to move forward, you get the Nile’s and Internal Bleeding’s, who believe in doing their thing again, but hopefully bigger and better than the last time.1 Formerly a two-man project turned solo-project Desecresy has toiled away in the catacombs of Finland since 2009. Spearheaded by founding member Tommi Grönqvist, sole instrumentalist who also took up vocals on The Mortal Horizon onward, this outfit has offered an unflinchingly gloomy, chug-heavy breed of doomy death metal. The Secret of Death is the gentleman’s ninth offering, and if you came here expecting radical innovation, you didn’t read the genre description correctly.

In the spirit of much great Finnish death, the name of the game is atmosphere. Much of the Desecresy blueprint sounds like the long-lost offspring of Rippikoulu, with a heavy emphasis on thunderous chugs and vocals emanating somewhere from below the Earth’s crust. While the drumming has plenty of BPM shifts, the chug-centric focus gives the illusion of The Secret of Death never quite escaping being a mid-tempo offering, which might thrill some and disappoint others. Actual moments of contrast appear for aid, peppering “By Slowing the Vortex of Time” and complimenting the expected belligerence in “Ancient Timbre of Demise.” The occasional spooky synths appear to help divide movements (“Crypthymn”, “Vanishing Existence”) and emphasize a transitional flow of ideas, though much like death itself, all roads lead to the same destination.

Not all those roads come with the same scenic route, however. There are two flourishes to elevate this particular Secret, and I’m sure you noticed at least one as soon as you hit the embed. This album sounds like it was produced by Mortician in the best possible way, with the organic drums mixed with such stone-age glee that the bass kicks boom across every forest cleaving downbeat section. Tommi’s vocals transcend “guttural” into tectonic-plate-altering vibrations reminiscent of Putrevore, but less moist and far more menacing and impenetrable. The second flourish is a real penchant for leads that straddle the line of both spooky and catchy, with a tone crystalline and bright but with melodies of doom and horror. Sprinkled across the album, they give a reprieve from the crypt excavating, grave violating assaults with horrific beauty (“Ancient Timbre of Demise”, “Gorge of the Dead”) without ruining the carefully crafted atmospheric theatrics within.

While The Secret of Death wields its toolkit well enough that one can’t quite call it homogeneous, it should be admitted that not every cut carries the same degree of ferment in the offal discharge. “Ancient Timbre…” and “Summoned With Necrolunar Telepathy” feature intros that are too similar to each other in approach, and “Summoned…” flirts with a Bolt Thrower vision but rides an empty lead far too many times to maintain its impact. Other than the closing power of “Vanishing Existence”, the leads can’t compete with the heights of memorability set by “Gorge of the Dead”. And yet, these quibbles are hardly deal breakers, as the relatively succinct 42-minute runtime allows Desecresy to avoid outstaying their welcome; an important trait, given the sheer bleakness on display. Additionally, alternating the traditional slow, doomed-out prolonged note stylings in some leads with melodic interpositions carrying more speed and virtuosity makes for excellent distinction when they appear, successfully keeping the listener’s attention.

To the surprise of what I hope is no one in particular, Desecresy have landed firmly on the “consistency” side of the deathly spectrum. A lovely hodgepodge of chunky soup with Finnish entrails and an unusual take on the Mortician broth has given The Secret of Death a good identity while lacking anything approaching the realm of surprise. A few more cuts featuring the quality of the bookending tracks could have the caliber to assemble a real worm-infested monstrosity, and I’ll certainly be keeping an eye out for them in the future. For now, we can all use more death in our lives, and if you’re on the prowl, I’ve got a Secret I’d like to share with you…
