“I like to use the word ‘goth-adjacent,’” Erin Hoagg offers when contemplating the genre of her Rare DM project over Zoom in mid-May. She’s chilling in her home studio in the LES, ready to discuss her upcoming album Attention. “Bloghouse-influenced,” she says. “Let’s go with electroclash moon, dark wave rising, and electronica sun.”
Arcane Roots have announced their biggest ever headline show, taking place in November.
After making their return after eight years away with epic single ‘A Wave, Across The Sea’, the refreshed five-piece will be hitting up London venue Here at Outernet for a headline show on November 11.
With support coming from False Advertising and Love Rarely, it’s set to be a celebration of Arcane Roots’ journey, and a wicked teaser of where they’re headed with this latest chapter.
Tickets will be on sale from May 29.
Alongside the huge show announcement, the band have also shared the ‘A Wave, Across The Sea’ EP, featuring three completely different alternative endings to their latest single.
Whilst it won’t be made available on any streaming platforms, you can grab it on Bandcamp from June 24.
On the newly created versions of ‘A Wave, Across The Sea’, singer Andrew Groves has said:
“A Wave, Across The Sea was one of the very first collaborations between Bjarni & myself. Long before any notions of Arcane Roots returning, it emerged in fits and starts, inevitably surviving pandemics, elections, protests, lockdowns, earthquakes, childbirth and numerous volcanic eruptions. So you can forgive me for thinking, while bobbing along on our volcanic little ice cube in the North Atlantic, that it almost felt as if all the worlds’ monsters were suddenly emerging from the murky depths society had long banished them to, while we experienced the very real throws of a deeply disgruntled earth; bucking & spewing it’s mantle onto a bed of moss & lichen.
“It is quite an outer-body experience to feel the ground moving beneath your feet, something that I feel would humble even the sturdiest of bipeds. Growing up in the UK, I was fortunate enough to not have to experience most of natures scariest turns but it soon put into perspective just how futile our existence is against the forces it employs. Thematically, this brought forward a concept; if we all felt something strongly enough, could we bring it into physical existence? We’re all aware of the ideals of spreading peace & love throughout the world but what if that feeling was one of division instead? If we all felt truly indifferent towards the ‘other’, could that somehow create some sort of physical impact? We’re all aware that extreme stresses & strong emotions can present as physical illnesses on the human body, so with a little more volume could that extend even further? To one another? To our surroundings? To the earth? Each ending explores these as a different choice. A split in the narrative, for you to explore as you will.”

“That’s a Smith & Wesson and you’ve had your six!”
Much like Professor Dent in Dr No, we have our six as well, though hopefully James Bond won’t have an issue.
I’m referring of course to the six M2TM South Wales Finalists who will take the stage at Day Of Wreckoning to not only play for a place at the pretty much sold out Bloodstock Festival but will also be there to showcase the talent of the South Wales music scene.
From over in the West side of things at Bunkhouse Swansea, it was a very tight hotlu debated show, with one band getting the fan vote it was up to the judges to choose between the other three and with nearly an hour of discussion they had finally made their choice.
Taking the fan vote as they have every time we’re Grindhorse83 who will surf the wave of weirdness to Newport, as the judges made sure that the heavy, technical sounds of Inscape and the anthemic modern metal of House Of Hosts were there to join them to represent the West side.
It was Manumit who unfortunately fell here but the fact that a band this talented and impressive didn’t get to Day Of Wreckoning shows just how good all the talent was on the night.
Over to East side now and it was a hot a sticky night at Green Rooms with four bands ready to do battle to get to Newport. Again fan votes were counted and the judges deliberated, agonising over every aspect to reach a decision all the while the crowd were drinking the bar dry (have to stay hydrated).
In the end though it was Excursia who managed to take the fan vote, yet again becoming a theme of their run while the judges thought that Disrupt The Continuum and Risperidrone were the acts that should join them at Day Of Wreckoning.
Unfortunately that meant that the bloodline of Blood Red Lips would not make it over the Newport threshold but they are certainly an entertaining hard rocking band and you should check them out as they held their own at every stage and getting better with every show.
So there we have it! Our six M2TM Finalists are:

They will be the first to play the Corn Exchange stage as they duke it out for a slot at Bloodstock, opening a multi venue day of brilliant music that will take over Newport, climaxing with a headline slot from the legendary The Wildhearts.
Boston Manor have announced a 10 year celebration of debut album ‘Be Nothing.’ including a special reworked version and a whole load of shows.

The ‘Be Nothing. 10 Year Anniversary Edition’ will arrive on August 14 via Pure Noise Records, shortly before the band hit the road across the UK and US to play the album in full for the very first time.
The album’s anniversary edition will feature some special acoustic reworkings, including one of the mighty ‘Lead Feet’.
That one’s out now, and you can take a listen below.
Speaking on what this anniversary means to them, bassist Dan Cunniff has shared:
“For me; writing and recording Be Nothing. was one of the most exciting things we had done at that time. Doing the “band thing” for many years previous to Boston Manor, I’d always wanted to be involved in writing a full length record but never had the opportunity to do it properly. So by the time the opportunity came round, I felt like we were all hyper focused on what we wanted to achieve and also keeping in mind what this record would sound like in 10 years from that point. That being said; I think we achieved our goals with Be Nothing. because I believe this record holds up even today 10 years on. The record did more than we thought it would do for us. It opened up so many doors, especially in the touring world. Having the opportunity to travel all around the world because of one record is pretty insane!
“Off the back of the release we announced Boston Manor’s first ever UK/EU headline tour (which we were shi**ing ourselves over btw) and to our amazement the shows all sold out. And I feel like at that point it was only the beginning for our band. be nothing. gave us the confidence that we can be a “real” band after all.”
Now for those all-important live dates.
