Paul McCartney Briefly Banned From His Own Subreddit
The phrase “paulmccartney has been banned” is inherently funny and absurd, especially when it comes to his own subreddit. Sir Paul McCartney was never the world’s most active Redditor, but the people running his Reddit account tried to post some photos and videos of a recent show in the r/PaulMcCartney subreddit over the weekend. But for reasons that remain mysterious, that thread was taken down, and McCartney’s account was temporarily suspended.

DEVIL’S ISLAND featuring Kill The Silence
DEVIL’S ISLAND featuring Kill The Silence
Welcome to this weeks edition of Devil’s Island! Every week we maroon a band or artist on the island and see what they get up to, how they cope with being all alone on a small island in the middle of the ocean. It’s not your average desert island and we’ll see just how each person copes with the extreme conditions.
This week when we arrived at Devil’s Island we find Kill The Silence sat on the beach. The island is far from their home, so how did they end up here and how did they cope with life on Devil’s Island?
Find out now…
Welcome to The Razors’e Edge and our somewhat lovely, warm desert island. Don’t worry about it’s name I’m sure it’s not as bad as that would suggest.
You’re marooned here on this island, but before you ended up shipwrecked you chose one album that you couldn’t live without. Which album did you each chose and why?
Sam – I’m gonna go with Innuendo by Queen. I don’t listen to it often but my parents used to jam headphones on me as a young child to try and get me to sleep. If I was on a desert island, some home comforts like that might just keep me sane.
John – I’m going with Legend of the Black Shawarma by Infected Mushroom because it’d keep me endlessly motivated during my island conquest and spiral into insanity.
Ian – I’d probably say Songbook by Frank Turner. There are a lot of things I could pick, but I love that album. He was pretty inspirational when I was figuring out songwriting and arranging – and I basically get five records in one with a compilation album, so who cares if it’s a cop out.
Jason – I’d go with my all time top album, World Record by Lower Than Atlantis. It’s packed with such a wide range of emotions that there will be a song perfect for however I’m feeling. It’s such a long standing favourite of mine too that I don’t think I will ever get bored of it at this point
Dan – Periphery III (Select Difficulty). When I finished uni after studying music, I was pretty exhausted and lost a bit of love for it to be honest. But this album’s brutal, nasty riffs inspired me and gave me such a fresh perspective, giving me some of that love for music back. Everytime I listen to this album, I always discover new details and hidden layers, so I’m sure I’ll find more being stuck on a desert island for the rest of my life.
Just behind that palm tree is a shack for each of you to stay in, with enough space for you to put up a poster on the wall of one album cover. What album cover do you each chose?
Sam – Wieder geil! By We Butter The Bread With Butter. I love cats, and if I get bored and find a pen I can change it into an ironic ‘hang in there’ poster.
John – Fragile by Yes. It gives me comfort from my childhood and a reminder there’s a wider world out there.
Ian – Behind the Devil’s Back by Fightstar. It’s a very evocative album cover and I doubt there’ll be any other cherry blossom trees on this desert island.
Jason – 22, A Million by Bon Iver. It’s a very visually interesting cover; lots to look at, lots to decipher. On a personal level, this album reminds me of a dark time in my life, something I experienced and pulled through. Listening to it, seeing this cover reminds me no matter how hard things get, I can still pull through.
Dan – Avenged Sevenfold, their self-titled album, partly in the hope that I can build a pirate ship and I can use it as my flag.
There’s also a bar on this here island. But alas each of you only get to choose one drink for the entirety of your stay. What’s your tipple of choice?
Sam – If it’s any drink, I’m gonna go with spiced jagermeister and gingerbeer. They discontinued the drink and I only have one bottle left. Once that bottle goes, I’ll never be able to have my favorite drink again so I’m gonna take advantage of this magical desert island bar!
John – Tinto de verano for me. Refreshing and unlike other drinks, I can drink it endlessly without an inevitable blackout where evil John takes the reins.
Ian – Ableforth’s Bathtub Gin. It’s wonderfully aromatic and refreshing on its own in case this magical bar runs out of tonic. Plus, they wrap the bottles in brown paper and tie them off with twine and wax, so I could at least pretend I’ve found Jack Sparrow’s rum-runner’s stash if I run out of other things to do.
Jason – My friend invented this drink called the ‘Inward Chill’. When I was in university, he worked at a bar and invented this cocktail for one night only, I can’t remember what was in it but it was blue, absolutely beautiful, and definitely too strong. We have them every now and then and they’re always incredible, but I don’t think I want to ruin the allure by knowing how to make it.
Dan – Irish Coffee. If I’m marooned, I want to be aggressively awake and alert at all times.
Your suitcases were lost when your ship sank, but you each managed to salvage one item of band merch. What’s the merch and for what band?
Sam – I’m gonna be a bit cringe and say one of our own hats. Protect myself from the sun, and when they eventually find my lifeless corpse because I’m not much of a survivalist, at least I can keep trying to advertise our band.
John – You know those wacky waving inflatable tube guys? I’d have one of those to signal for help ‘cos in this reality my band sells them.
Ian – Probably my Frank Carter tote bag. It’ll help with foraging for food and firewood and I’ll have someone to thank for the help.
Jason – Same idea as Ian but a backpack, my brother has an Ice Nine Kills one so that will do, popping all of the collectables in. It’ll definitely come in very handy
Dan – So Periphery do a coffee called flatline, so on top of the alcoholic coffee from the bar, I also have my own stash of regular coffee… yes I have a coffee problem.
You’re sat on the island thinking “I’m stuck here on this island with my bandmates for eternity”… who would you rather have been shipwrecked with?
Sam – Danny DeVito. Maybe he will have some rum ham to pass the time. If nothing else he can make me laugh.
John – Ray Mears, we’d be surviving and thriving.
Ian – I also choose Ray Mears. Does that mean we get two of him?
Jason – Not to get you all in trouble guys but I’d pick my fiancee haha, but if I had to pick someone I don’t know personally, it would be David Tennant, my all time favourite actor and he seems like such a nice person.
Dan – If I had to pick someone I don’t know… I don’t think I would, I think I’d bring a dog, dogs are great.
There’s a walkman in your pocket, on the tape inside is the recording of the one live show that stands out for you. It could be any show, from any band, anywhere in the world. What show is on that walkman?
Sam – 2025 Korn Headline set at Download. First time I got to see them live, and it sounded huge!
John – Black Sabbath at Sheffield Arena in 2013. That show blew my mind and Ozzy was incredible.
Ian – Enter Shikari at Leeds Arena in 2024. It might be a fairly recent show, but it was one of the best I’ve seen.
Jason – Lower Than Atlantis, Leeds Met Uni April 2013. That was the last, but also only time I saw LTA play anything from their first album and it was part of a medley that included a very early track of theirs called ‘The Juggernaut’. I get why the band evolved away from that sound, but for me personally, I love their older stuff, so to see that live was such a great experience.
Dan – Sleep Token & Bilmuri at the Co-op Live in Manchester 2024. Honestly, everything I could have ever wanted from a show, I got in that show.
You’re getting desperate, you decide the only course of action is to put a message in a bottle and hope someone finds it. Your message could be to any member of any band, but should be the most suitable for a rescue attempt. Who is it?
Sam – I’ll go with Bruce Dickinson. He’s got to have an Ironmaiden helicopter somewhere right? I don’t think he could land one of their planes on the island, so I’m hoping so.
John – Nick Mason from Pink Floyd since he can pilot helicopters and drummers have a secret blood pact to save each other from desert islands.
Ian – Gary Numan would at least fly to the rescue with some performative flair given he’s a former aerobatic display pilot.
Jason – Sting… he has experience with these things right?
Dan – I’m gonna say Bruce Dickinson is the only one that comes to mind for me too, he’s the only guy I know that can fly.
You’ve been stuck here a while and food supplies are running low. There’s only one thing for it… which fellow band member gets sacrificed to help the others survive?
Sam – That’s tough, Dan is pretty handy with a bow so he could hunt some food for us, then again he could hunt us so I’ll go with Dan before he gets the chance.
John – Oh 100% Dan ‘cos he’ll have tried to touch me too many times by this point.
Ian – Unfortunately, I also choose Dan. John would be too hard to defeat in single combat, and frankly, both Jay and Sam would disarm me all too easily with those puppy dog eyes.
Jason – Yeah, sorry Dan. He works out the most so he’d be the most lean.
Dan – Well what can I say, I know I’m a snack but I didn’t think I would be the whole meal, damn… I’m going to have to go with John because there is something that amuses me about making drum sticks out of the drummer.
Finally, when the ship sank you each managed to save one person from the wreckage. That person is the one musician that has influenced your career the most, shaped your way of thinking and your outlook on life. Who did you save?
Sam – JB Brubaker from August Burns Red. Huge influence for me guitar wise. Maybe he will have a spare set of sandals I can borrow.
John – Neil Peart from Rush. My biggest influence and the reason I got so intensely into drumming as a child. Wouldn’t be doing what I do if not for him.
Ian – Lee Sklar. I had the pleasure of meeting him at a bass expo in London when I was a teenager; his attitude towards bass and general philosophy towards life really inspired me, both musically and personally. He’d be a good hang and definitely have plenty of sage wisdom to dispense while we slowly dehydrate
Jason – Billy Lunn from The Subways. Their song “Rock & Roll Queen” was the song that got me into singing and being in bands, I also had the absolute pleasure of supporting him on an acoustic tour a couple of years ago and he was just the nicest dude I’ve ever met in music. He invited me into their green room to hang out pre-show and we talked about so much stuff, a lot has stuck with me.
Dan – Honestly, I’d be looking to make sure Sam is safe in that case. I have improved as a musician in so many ways since joining Kill The Silence, he kinda sets such a high standard for me to reach and inspires me to keep improving in all aspects.
