  • Full Album Stream: Zerre – “Rotting on a Golden Throne”

Dying Victims Productions can always be counted on to deliver bands that provide fresh takes on classic styles. And Bavaria’s Zerre is no exception, having begun as a modern hardcore band and morphing into a thrash metal monster-squad since their reformation in 2022. On the band’s latest album, Rotting on a Golden Throne, Zerre delivers all the essentials for thrash metal maniacs: solid and scorching vocals, muscular and powerful riffs, and relentless bass and drumwork. Stylistically, the band references early Metallica and Exodus, and I would add distinct notes of the first three Testament albums and some Nuclear Assault as well.

Thrash metal has been done and overdone again and again over the decades, but there’s a good reason bands keep coming back to it — it’s because records like this one still need to be written.

    According to the band:

Rotting on a Golden Throne is the result of us pushing everything a bit further — faster riffs, more aggression, more atmosphere and a darker overall feel. We kind of took the first album as the foundation and made a huge step in finding our own sound, making it more intense, heavy, cohesive and direct. It‘s definitely way more thrash and less punk than the previous record.

Rotting on a Golden Throne comes out via Dying Victims Productions this Friday.

  • Monday Morning Video – Taylor Hollingsworth

Birmingham guitarist and singer-songwriter Taylor Hollingsworth has built a devoted following through his solo work and as a member of Conor Oberst and the Mystic Valley Band, earning acclaim for his cosmic fingerpicking and distinctive “folk-art-punk-blues” style. We caught Hollingsworth for the first time last year at a rocking solo show in Brooklyn, and we’ve […]
  • Lana Del Rey Slams Venue Hosting Ethel Vs Lana Drag Brunch: “Fuck You”

Last year, Lana Del Rey launched a messy and seemingly one-sided feud against Ethel Cain, one of many artists whose music carries a clear Del Rey influence. Back in August, Del Rey posted a snippet of a still-unreleased Cain diss track. There hasn’t been any further action in that beef since then, but it’s still real to Lana Del Rey, who was not amused to learn that an Atlanta gay bar will host a Lana vs. Ethel drag brunch.

  • Model/Actriz Share Surprise New Swan Songs EP

Model/Actriz released their great sophomore album Pirouette just over a year ago, and today the glowering art-punks are keeping the party going with Swan Songs, a new surprise-released EP. “Glassman” is a mash of industrial-inspired beats about spending a weekend with a crush; “Thank You By Dido” is an eerie ballad and not a cover…

  • Alkaline Trio welcome “absolute monster” new drummer, Tosh Peterson

Alkaline Trio have introduced their new drummer, Tosh Peterson.

Fresh from appearing behind the kit as part of Lady Gaga’s mind-blowing Mayhem Ball, the 24-year-old Californian is joining Matt Skiba and Dan Andriano, following the departure of Atom Willard last month. As well as Gaga, Tosh has played with everyone from Machine Gun Kelly and Fall Out Boy to Bad Bunny and Lil Nas X.

Frontman Matt has taken to Instagram to share that he met Tosh at Swingers a few months back for lunch to meet up and discuss the possibility of him playing in @alkalinetrio. Tosh’s mom was also there who turned out to be a fellow history buff so her and I spent half the lunch talking about Churchill and the Miracle of Dunkirk while Tosh politely ate his fries. He later told @danielandriano that if we had had a problem with his mom coming to lunch he probably didn’t want to play with us anyway.

Apart from the absolute MONSTER he is behind a drum kit he is just a lovely guy: KIND, polite, enthusiastic, driven and HILARIOUS,” Matt continues. I told Dan I wouldn’t want Tosh to play with us if he HADN’T brought his mom. Tosh is a beautiful human being we’re very excited to travel and play music with and a drummer we couldn’t be more thankful to be able to welcome into OUR family.”

  • Jonathon “Boogie” Long: Courage In The Chaos Review

Jonathon “Boogie” Long has never been short on feel, but on Courage in the Chaos, he sounds especially grounded in it. This is a record that leans into instinct rather than flash, and while it never tries to rewrite the blues rock playbook, it plays its hand with confidence and character.

Long is a Louisiana-born guitarist and singer who built his reputation through years of steady work on the road and in the studio. A former Guitar Center King of the Blues winner, he’s shared stages with major names in the genre and developed a style rooted in blues, with touches of soul and gospel shaping his phrasing and delivery.

Courage in the Chaos feels less like a statement piece and more like a natural continuation of who he already is as an artist. It doesn’t push for reinvention or try to surprise for the sake of it. Instead, it leans into what he does well, blending blues, soul, and gospel touches into a set of songs that feel sincere, lived-in, and confident in their simplicity.

The album kicks off with “A Fool Can See”, a gritty, hard-hitting blues rocker, driven by a thick, commanding riff that immediately sets the tone. It’s an opener that grabs attention without overcomplicating things, letting its infectious groove do the work. That momentum carries into “Hell or High Water”, another energetic cut where Long’s lead guitar takes center stage, delivering sharp, expressive lines that cut through the mix with ease.

“Empty Promises”, a cover of the iconic Michael Burks track, slows things down but deepens the mood. Long gives it a slightly rougher edge, adding grit to the guitars while preserving the emotional core of the original. It’s a respectful and effective reinterpretation. Elsewhere, “Drinking Through” leans into a somber, almost reflective atmosphere, pairing strong vocals with tasteful guitar work that never overreaches.

“Baby I’m Through” injects some classic blues rock energy back into the record, while “Lipstick” explores a more soul-inflected direction, showing Long’s versatility as a vocalist. The closing “Catfish Blues” lands as a solid, fitting finish.

As a whole, Courage in the Chaos stands as a well-crafted and cohesive effort that highlights Long’s strengths without overextending them. The album maintains a clear identity throughout thanks to a consistent blues-driven foundation, resulting in a release that should resonate comfortably with any fan of the genre.

  • The Cab Share Fun New Track ‘Back From The Dead’

The Cab are heading at pace into the release of their new album ‘Chasing Crowns’ with another absolute earworm of a track.

It’s called ‘Back From The Dead’ and serves not just as an anthem for the band’s return to the spotlight but also as a reflection of what it feels like to be on the other side of a relationship that left you broken and bruised. Brimming with cocksure attitude and cheeky refrains, as well as the sort of hooks that stay in your head for weeks on end, it’s a sign of the band being well and truly back in their stride.

Vocalist Alex DeLeon had this to say about the tune, stating, “This was the last song written for the record. We had a lot of music we loved but nothing that really felt Iike the Anthem to kick the door open to. This song was the last song written for the album and as soon as we wrote it we knew the album was done. ‘Pulled that bullet out of my head’ was a metaphor for saying… you know what… I am going to do something about all of the things that killed me and held me down before.” It’s really a song about redemption. This was really a statement to the scene saying this is our renaissance and rebirth!

The band’s new album, ‘Chasing Crowns,’ is set for release on April 24.

Alex had this to say about the band being right back at it again:

After all this time, it feels like we are finally home again. We have been waiting over ten years to be able to headline, release an album and sing these songs again with the fans, so this is completely surreal. Counting down the seconds to be on those stages and for people to see and hear what we have had up our sleeves!
