As “Starless” spends its second consecutive week at #1 on the Active Rock radio charts, A Perfect Circle has released a new video featuring the debut live performance of the track, filmed at their sold-out London show this summer.

At the time of the single’s release, Maynard James Keenan shared: “Of course I’m excited to release the recordings, but our songs always take on an expanded personality once we start playing them live.”

Recorded at Billy Howerdel’s Lankershim Ranch Studio in Studio City, Calif., “Starless” was produced by Howerdel, mixed by Matty Green (U2, Florence + the Machine, TV on the Radio), and features longtime collaborator Josh Freese on drums.

“Some songs get kicked around and massaged for years,” Howerdel says. “But once in a while, one takes shape quickly, as if it had been there all along.”

The band also recently released a second song, “To Whom It May Concern,” which offers a counterpoint to the more muscular “Starless,” highlighting the nuanced songwriting that has made A Perfect Circle an enduring presence in modern rock.

A Perfect Circle resume their global tour on Nov. 25, with dates across Latin America, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, and Hawaii. The band launch their North American leg on April 13 with Puscifer (April 13 to 25) and The Cult (April 27 to June 13) joining them across the two-month outing. Formed in 1999 by guitarist Billy Howerdel and vocalist Maynard James Keenan, A Perfect Circle released their debut album, Mer de Noms, in 2000. The collection debuted at #4 on the Billboard 200 and became the highest-charting debut rock album of its time. Featuring fan favorites “Judith,” “3 Libras,” and “The Hollow,” the platinum-selling release remains a defining album. Their catalog has continued to resonate, from Thirteenth Step (2003) and eMOTIVe (2004), to 2018’s Eat the Elephant, which debuted at #3 on the Billboard 200.

Thomas Miller’s Lazarus Effect, the new venture of former/founding Symphony X bassist Thomas Miller, delivers a new song and spellbinding corresponding video for “Fear No Evil.” The song can be found on the project’s eponymous debut, nearing release on Sensory Records late this month.

The debut from Thomas Miller’s Lazarus Effect features two of Miller’s former Symphony X bandmates, guitarist Michael Romeo, and keyboardist Michael Pinnella. Furiously delivering an epic, forty-nine-minute progressive metal opus inspired by majestic themes and various musical overtones, the album was mixed and mastered by Eric Rachel (Symphony X, Black Sabbath, The Black Dahlia Murder), and completed with art and design by Rodrigo Gudiña, who also crafted the new video for “Fear No Evil.”

Miller writes, “I feel ‘Fear No Evil’ is the best representation of the album in a nutshell. It sits right in the middle of all the other songs and was a great song for the artist, Rodrigo A. Gudina, to use his creative imagery to convey to the listener some of the connotations within the lyrics. Everyone was also able to spread their wings and flex their technical muscles a bit more on this one as well.”

Sensory Records, the metal division of progressive keystone The Laser’s Edge, will release Thomas Miller’s Lazarus Effect on CD, LP, and digital platforms on October 30th. Preorders are live at the label webstore here and on Bandcamp, the standard audio here, and the 24-bit hi-res here.

Thomas Miller started his music career in central New Jersey and played in numerous cover and original bands influenced by progressive bands from the 1970s and 1980s. In 1986, he met Michael Romeo, a local progressive and classically influenced guitarist, with whom he then recorded and played in several bands. In 1994, they formed Symphony X and recruited the rest of the band members to complete the lineup and sign with Japanese record label, Zero Records.

After international critical acclaim for their albums Symphony X, Damnation Game, The Divine Wings Of Tragedy, Twilight In Olympus, and A Prelude To The New Millenium, they did various tour dates in Japan, Europe, and NYC. Shortly afterwards, due to personal issues, Thomas stepped away from the band.

Continually writing and recording on various projects and honing his writing skills, Miller collaborated on a recording project with vocalist Howard “Hollywood How” Portney in 2017. After interactions with fans over the years and realizing his chemistry with How, he decided to start writing for a new project, which would become Thomas Miller’s Lazarus Effect.
