Portland, Oregon act Master Splinter (named after the mutant rat kung-fu master from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) is back with their newest EP "Black Hole".
The 3-track release begins with "No Die", a song we're familiar with as we reviewed it back in April of last year. The song is introduced as distorted hard rock guitars, slamming drums, and eccentric spoken/softly sung vocals create a powerful sound. Master Splinter quickly showcases a sound that strikes a balance between classic rock, heavy metal, and a more experimental sound. The song builds in intensity as brutal guitar chugs and echoing screams create a sound that is unexpectedly heavy from the starting point of the song.
"Raven's Rise" starts with dark ambient guitar before launching into speeding drums and belted vocals that have an operatic quality to them. Theatrical lyrics remind me of power metal as grandiosities are described while slamming guitar creates a heavy backbone for the track. The song's mix sounds good, but still feels a little unpolished. I think the sense of rawness matches the eccentricity of Master Splinter; it feels like they are experimenting and releasing music that is unapologetic and true to themselves, which I like. A heavily distorted growl launches into a breakdown as bright synths further the epic vibe of the track while piercing guitar leads add more melody to the sound.
The final song, "Unbound" starts with a thumping bass line that reminds of progressive rock as drums and guitar are slowly introduced. Drawn-out vocals further a dramatic sound as reverbed instrumentals create a deep atmosphere as vocals fade away. "Unbound" feels much more atmospheric than the previous tracks, taking a slower sound that focuses on building a larger soundscape. Things speed up soon enough as distorted guitar riffs and shredding leads are catapulted into your ears, meanwhile distant screams further metal influences. Heavy-hitting syncopated chugging creates a memorable exit to the track.
Overall, "Black Hole" is a strong release from the band and showcases a sound that blends influences from across rock, metal, and experimental genres. Master Splinter creates a sound that feels unique, a little raw, and the band isn't afraid to get weird at times, which makes their songs memorable and stand out from the norm. Yes. Kittie will launch the Legacy Of Fire Tour on June 6, 2025 — their first full North American headline tour in more than ten years.
Kittie have announced the 16-date Legacy Of Fire Tour celebrating 30 years as a band. The run kicks off June 6 in St. Louis and marks their first full headline tour in over a decade. The announcement follows their 2024 comeback album Fire and the 2025 anniversary release Spit XXV. Kingdom Of Giants and Gore will support all dates.
There was a time when Kittie were treated as a moment.
Now they look like a movement that never actually went out.
Ontario-bred and formed in 1996, Kittie emerged during the late-’90s metal explosion with a sound that was raw, confrontational, and impossible to ignore. Their early breakthrough helped carve space for women in heavy music at a time when that lane was brutally narrow.
Thirty years later, they’re not revisiting the past quietly.
They’re headlining again.
The Legacy Of Fire Tour launches June 6 in St. Louis and runs through June 27 in Montreal, hitting 16 cities across the United States and Canada.
It’s more than a victory lap.
It’s a statement.
The band’s 2024 comeback album Fire was met with serious critical respect, proving this wasn’t a nostalgia act dusting off old riffs. Then in 2025, they doubled down with Spit XXV, a re-recorded and reimagined anniversary EP revisiting the album that helped define turn-of-the-millennium metal.
Now comes the real test of momentum: the stage.
Joining them across all dates are Kingdom Of Giants and Gore.

The routing hits key markets:
June 6 — St. Louis, MO — The Pageant
June 8 — Denver, CO — Ogden Theatre
June 9 — Salt Lake City, UT — The Depot
June 12 — Anaheim, CA — House Of Blues
June 13 — Phoenix, AZ — Nile Theater
June 15 — San Antonio, TX — Aztec Theatre
June 16 — Houston, TX — House Of Blues
June 18 — Nashville, TN — Brooklyn Bowl
June 19 — Atlanta, GA — The Masquerade
June 20 — Charlotte, NC — The Fillmore
June 21 — Baltimore, MD — Baltimore Soundstage
June 23 — New York, NY — Irving Plaza
June 24 — Worcester, MA — The Palladium
June 26 — Toronto, ON — Danforth Music Hall
June 27 — Montreal, QC — Théâtre Beanfield
For longtime fans, that New York–Toronto–Montreal stretch alone feels symbolic.

The band addressed the anniversary directly, calling the tour a celebration of “every stage, every struggle, and every fan who carried us forward.”
That wording matters.
Because Kittie’s career hasn’t been smooth. They’ve weathered lineup changes, industry shifts, and long gaps between major moments. But the fire metaphor they’re leaning into isn’t accidental.
They’re framing this not as a reunion.
But as continuation.
And there’s a difference.
Metal is cyclical.
Bands that were once underestimated often return with renewed cultural gravity. In the current climate — where early-2000s heavy music is being rediscovered by younger listeners — Kittie’s catalog feels newly relevant instead of dated.
Add a strong comeback album in Fire, an anniversary reimagining in Spit XXV, and now a headline tour, and suddenly this isn’t just nostalgia.
It’s recalibration.
And if the ticket demand matches the sentiment online, this run could reset how Kittie are positioned moving forward.
Are they legacy?
Or are they actively re-entering the upper tier?
This tour will answer that.

Yes. The Legacy Of Fire Tour runs June 6–27, 2025 across 16 North American cities.
This marks their first full North American headline tour in more than ten years.
Spit XXV is a 2025 re-recorded anniversary EP revisiting their breakthrough album Spit.
Kingdom Of Giants and Gore will open all dates on the Legacy Of Fire Tour.
Kittie formed in 1996 in Ontario, Canada and became one of the most visible female-fronted metal bands of the late ’90s and early 2000s. Their debut album Spit helped define the era’s aggressive, groove-heavy sound and opened doors for women in extreme music. Over three decades, Kittie have evolved through lineup changes and industry shifts while maintaining a reputation for raw intensity and uncompromising live performances. Their 2024 comeback album Fire marked a renewed chapter in the band’s career.

Ah, St. Patrick’s Day weekend. What a great time to hang out with friends, turn up the tunes, and get rip-roaringly irresponsible with your favorite booze of choice. Now imagine you had all that and a large lineup of some of today’s badass death metal bands playing on stages across two days?
Enter this year’s Shamrock Slaughter Fest. Set to start next Friday on March 13-14 in Fort Worth, Indiana’s Piere’s Entertainment Center and Stan’s Room, this all-ages event will see some huge names like headliners Incantation and Sanguisugabogg throwing down. A total of 28 different bands will perform across two stages over the course of those two days.
Looking at the lineup of bands feels like a love letter to the genre, which was by design according to the fest’s Gravemind Entertainment’s Braxton Keyser.
“I grew up in this scene, surrounded by people who live and breathe this music. Shamrock Slaughter Fest was built from that same passion — to bring together every part of death metal and extreme music under one roof. For our first year to feature one of the biggest names in metal today, legendary bands that helped shape the genre, and young acts keeping it alive — that says everything about where this scene is right now. My goal is to keep building something the fans, the bands, and the entire community can be proud of, and with their support, take it even further every year.”
It should be noted that Incantation’s ongoing food drive will be featured at this year’s festival, so remember to bring non-perishable food items to donate. Every little bit helps.
The first band on Friday, March 13 will kick things off shortly after doors open at 5 p.m. with music continuing until 11:30 p.m. that night. The following day, doors open at 2 p.m. with music running until about midnight.
You can find the full list of participating bands below and get your tickets today.
