Legendary bassist Billy Sheehan has confirmed that Talas — the classic Buffalo, New York band he fronted from the 1970s into the mid-1980s — will play live shows in 2027 with James Naro on lead vocals. James is the son of the late Phil Naro, who sang on the band’s 2022 reunion album 1985 before his death in May 2021 at the age of 63. Sheehan announced a July 10 appearance on SiriusXM’s “Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk.”

Sheehan said (as transcribed by Blabbermouth): “When we did the 1985 record with Talas, which was everything that was going on with us in 1985 when I left to join David Lee Roth, all those songs, we went back and did them all right, and a singer, Phil Naro, came out and just nailed it. He got up to the mic and knocked it out of the park.

“We didn’t know how ill he was at the time. Now we know even how much greater he was to have stepped up to the mic and done what he did in the condition he was in, and sadly we lost him soon after that record.

“And I’m really, really pleased to announce that his son, James, who has got an amazing voice, much like his dad, has decided to do some shows with Talas. So we’re gonna go out with that lineup, and James is gonna sing. I already had him sing a couple of our songs just to see if it fit, and he sent me his voice, and he’s the spitting image of his dad. Wonderful, sweet kid, on top of it.

“So, we’re very excited. The beginning of next year we’re gonna go out and do some shows as Talas with Phil’s son at lead vocals, and we’re so, so happy about it. He’s such a wonderful young man, and we’re gonna have a blast.”

1985 was released in September 2022 via Metal Blade Records. The album featured Sheehan, Phil Naro, drummer Mark Miller and guitarist Kire Najdovski, collecting material the band had written in the mid-1980s around the time Sheehan departed to join David Lee Roth’s band. Phil’s death from tongue cancer in May 2021 — not long after the album was recorded — gave the project a deeply elegiac quality. The 2022 album also followed a 2017 reunion Talas staged for the “Bands At Barnard” charity event in Greece, after which the band played only sporadic dates.

After his Talas tenure, Phil Naro paired his powerful voice with a number of recording projects involving Kiss co-founder Peter Criss and Canadian rockers Coney Hatch. He also co-wrote several tracks with Rascals founding guitarist Gene Cornish and co-wrote three songs for Canadian artist Lee Aaron’s 1989 album Bodyrock.

Sheehan went on to form Mr. Big in 1989, achieving a Billboard No. 1 single in the U.S. and 14 other countries with “To Be With You” from the band’s second album, Lean Into It.

Today, alternative metallers ENTHEOS announce their new studio album, Empty on the Inside, arriving October 23rd, 2026 via Metal Blade Records, and unveil their first single and video “Golden Crown“, available now on all DSPs.

Comments vocalist Chaney Crabb, “‘Golden Crown’ is a song that we spent a few years writing and re-writing until we felt that we really had it right. The chorus of the song was originally written in 2020, long before we began working on this album, and it was so strong that we knew we had to include it on the album. Once the song was finished, it became obvious to us that this was what we wanted to release as our first single. When writing this song, we channeled a lot of our favorite bands and influences from the ’90s – we were aiming to write a ‘heavier’ version of a ’90s rock song that included creepy synths, huge chorus and an explosive breakdown.

“Lyrically, the song is about losing yourself in a deeply destructive attachment that feels both empowering and imprisoning. The formed relationship has become inseparable from your identity. The lyric, ‘I’ve worn you like a golden crown year after year,’ represents a burden that is destroying you, but has also become how you define yourself.”

Empty on the Inside is the most ambitious and fully realized album of ENTHEOS‘ career. Subcarpathian black metal is an understaffed subdivision of the genre. It’s currently occupied by only one band, Poland’s Kalt Vindur, whose work is entrenched in regional history. The nomenclature does not denote a more deprived artistic approach compared to other Carpathian bands but ties Kalt Vindur to their home province. They loosen those ties on their upcoming fourth album, The Void of Time, releasing in November. Today, we’re premiering the video for the title track ahead of its release on streaming services on July 22. Check it out below and see how the group navigates the boundless expanse of time.

It’s immediately apparent that Kalt Vindur are chasing a new thematic muse on “The Void of Time.” They grapple with how time is the only immortal construct in the universe and how all will collapse around it, paradoxically being the only thing that survives itself. Along those lines, “The Void of Time” feels timeless, at least within black metal canon. The production may be modern and sleek, but the music is stereotypically frosty. This apathy towards the end of all life is kind of the point of the genre, but Kalt Vindur expand further into black metal as a concept, referencing only it and nothing that came before or afterwards. Venom and Hellhammer are far from their minds, as are any symphonic progressions, Kvist-isms, or punkish neanderthal drawling. Kalt Vindur present black metal as being perhaps the only entity that will survive the void of time.

Evanescence’s Amy Lee says it was “so fun” supporting Metallica on the Australia and New Zealand leg of the San Francisco titans’ three-year-long M72 world tour.

Lee’s Arkansas band played their six shows stadium with Metallica and openers Suicidal Tendencies in November 2025. The singer calls the headliners “so gracious”, even letting her bring her grand piano onstage for the entirety of her five-piece’s hour-long sets.

“You never know how it’s going to be coming into somebody else’s world,” Lee tells Loudwire. “It’s their show and [you give] full-on respect: OK, it’s Metallica, we’ll back off. But also, can we have some good production? What exactly can we get away with?”

She continues: “And they ended up being so cool. They let me put our grand piano out on the snake pit thing, so it could just live there and I could go for the couple of moments that I spend at the piano, just surrounded by the crowd.”

The singer also reflects on bringing her then-11-year-old son onto the tour, and watching Metallica with him at the end of each night.

“[He was] the perfect age to fall in love with metal,” she says. “So, him getting to experience that in the stadium, rain gently starts falling during Nothing Else Matters, just watching his mind go like, ‘I’m in!’ It was such a good, good thing for my heart, and just took me back to being that age and falling in love with music.”

The 2025 shows marked Evanescence’s first time supporting Metallica, as well as their first time playing in stadiums. Talking to Minnesota radio station 93X last August, Lee said that she wasn’t “scared at all” ahead of the tour.

“It’s a lot of bands, so we’re not responsible for carrying more than like our portion of the weight and [these will be] Metallica shows, so fans are gonna be stoked,” she explained (via Arrow Lords Of Metal).

“But at the same time, I know how those fans can be. I’ve been in this game for a while. I know what it is. I know what I’ve gotta bring. I know what not to play. So, we’re just gonna bring it and have a blast.”

Metallica have a reputation for going above and beyond to make their support acts feel welcome. Ahead of the November 1 show on the Australian tour, the band presented Lee with a M72-inspired cake.

Similarly, talking to Hammer last year, Mammoth singer/multi-instrumentalist Wolfgang Van Halen revealed that he was given a ‘Perfect Attendance Award’ for supporting them at every venue on the M72 tour’s 2023 and ’24 legs.

“Opening for Metallica was unlike anything I’ve ever been a part of,” Van Halen said. “It was really, really crazy.”

Metallica recently ended the M72 run with a summer European leg, supported by Gojira, Knocked Loose, Pantera and Avatar. The band posted tributes to each of the four openers via social media earlier this week. Avatar responded in a statement to Loudwire, calling the shows “something we will always be grateful for”.

The M72 tour may have ended, but Metallica won’t be away from the stage for long. In October, they’ll return for a residency at Las Vegas multimedia venue The Sphere. They’ll be the first metal band to play the space, which has previously hosted U2, the Eagles, the Backstreet Boys and more.

Meanwhile, Evanescence released their new album, Sanctuary, last month. Their breakthrough hit, 2003 single Bring Me To Life, has just been certified Diamond by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

Pure Reason Revolution have announced their seventh studio album, Terrifying Angels, along with a lead single and music video, “Spin Like Fire.” The album is due September 25 via InsideOut Music (Century Media Records) and marks the band’s fourth full-length since reforming in 2019.

Vocalist and guitarist Jon Courtney said of the album’s central concept: “My initial thought of an angel was the cute kind of cherub, but traditionally angels aren’t cute or comforting figures. They’re often overwhelming, terrifying beings.”

On the shift in sonic approach from the band’s previous record, Courtney added: “The last record was more chill, so it just felt terribly natural to do something grittier, heavier and more aggressive.” Terrifying Angels is described as dark and potent, built around savage riffs, ominous soundscapes and grungy layering, all anchored by the band’s signature transcendent harmonies.

The core trio of Courtney, vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Annicke Shireen, and drummer Ravi Kesavaram are joined by a range of collaborators on the album. Founding member Greg Jong co-wrote the title track and “Rumination Ruin” with Courtney during a jam session in Portland, Oregon. Alt-rock veteran Paul Mullen — known for fronting Yourcodenameis: Milo and Losers — co-wrote both “Haywire Heart” and the album’s closing 14-minute epic “Hold Your Wrath.” A further track, “Below Radiance,” was developed from a composition by Courtney’s protégé Kenny Fitzgerald. Bass contributions come from Mariusz Duda of Lunatic Soul and Kristoffer Gildenlöw (formerly of Pain of Salvation). Mixing duties are once again handled by Bruce Soord of The Pineapple Thief.

Pure Reason Revolution will tour the UK in November 2026 in support of the album, with Kyros as special guests. Dates:
